Jim Hammett is available

Jim Hammett was the Rangers head amateur scout during the 2007-08 season. He left the Rangers organization in the summer of 2008 to join TB as their director of player personnel. Hammett knew previous TB co-owner Len Barrie who hired him. Steve Yzerman hired Al Murray(ex Kings scout/Hockey Canada exec)to run the TB scouting department.

Quote:
"We were really excited," Rangers Head Amateur Scout Jim Hammett said of the chance to draft Del Zotto. "We had held this guy in really high regard as far as how high he could go. We think that he belonged in that upper echelon with some of the other defensemen that went higher, so overall we were absolutely thrilled that he was still there

We have confirmed with the club that Jim Hammett, player personnel director who ran the 2010 draft, is no longer with the #TBLightning.

The Rangers had their best draft in 2008. TB had good drafts in 2009 and 2010.

Clark and Gorton have done good work but it won't hurt if Hammett was once again part of the scouting staff.

The Rangers didn't retain Ray Clearwater in addition to Christer Rockstrom this summer. Clearwater scouted the US for the Rangers.

I agree, bringing back a voice that was successful to the scouting staff couldn't hurt.

A guy that was high on Del Zotto is a guy I trust. Tampa also just had a couple of dynamite drafts in a row, bring him back on.

Did he leave or did we let him go? I'm thinking left (as said in the OP as well) because i don't think the organization would let him leave just like that.

Sign him up, last three years he's shown he knows what he is doing.

Personally, I am a huge fan of the '08 draft, but don't know much about him other than that. Out of curiosity, what are the TBL picks in the last couple of years that have everyone so high on Hammett? Hedman and Connolly were obvious no-brainer (albeit excellent!) picks and I don't know much about the other guys - so who are the gems that came later that prove he's such a great judge of talent?

(In case it's not clear, I'm not being sarcastic here - I legitimately want to know what later TBL picks in the last two drafts people think are proof of his acumen.)

TB traded into the late 1st round(trade with Wings)in 2009 to select Carter Ashton. Selected Richard Panik in the 2nd round. Took Brock Buekeboom in the 3rd round in June.

When Hammett ran the Avs drafts,he selected Wolski,Statsny and Stewart.
