For those that vote yes and not sure. Do you give Holmgren credit, now? I mean on paper, Emery is better than Leighton so we had a solid chance right form the start. Wrong? Right?
People will try to argue it (especially the Kane goal), but I think Leighton played phenomenal for most of the playoffs. Could Emery have kept up with that? Or played better? As Pikachu said, impossible to know.
On the subject of the title, if we're talking playing Emery only in the finals, then I believe so. If we're talking playoffs, maybe, maybe not. We had two goalies get hot at the right time, and one get cold at the extremely wrong time. Hell, if Emery played the whole season, it's not likely, but there's a chance we may not have even made the playoffs.
So you saying they weren't playing above their normal level?
It seemed they played far above the norm, until the finals.
Boucher was good against Devils he made some good saves. He was hot. I’ll go with you on that. He was hot because he sucked very badly during regular season. He did what normally a solid starter would do and honestly I did not expect it from him. Boosh did not give up soft goals and made saves when he had too.
Against Boston he was.. hmmmm ok. Got injured Leighton started. Mike was also just ok but was much better in game 6 and looked soft in game 7, 1st period team pulled it off and our coaching was top notch as well as out best players were actually our best players.
Against Habs, Flyers as a team gave nothing to Habs. Not a damn thing. It was men against boys. Habs were embarrassed like Flyers were embarrassed years ago against Sens when Cechmanek was our starter. I give Leighton credit, he was square to every shot.
Against Hawks, Leighton was very much below average and that last goal against Kane was flat out ****ing disgusting.
If the questionis that the flyers were already in the finals and if emery was healthy do they beat the hawks? Yes i think they do.
If the question is if he was healthy and played all year? Impossible to tell as the seedings would have been much different, maybe the flyers dont even make the playoffs.

This is how I saw it. Maybe it is hot?
3 shutouts against the Habs in conference finals says a lot.
He was hot. But eventually everyone who gets hot peters out. Just happened to be in the finals.
And Kane's last goal was a fluke to me more than bad goaltending. Every goalie one time or another will not fully cover the post. Most of the time they do, whether it's from exhaustion or whatever, it happens. Kane threw it on and snuck through. Every goalie's given up a goal like that at one point of their NHL career. Leighton just did it at a valuable moment.

So was Lalime hot in 01-02 or Flyers played like **** in playoffs aginst Sens? By the way Lalime was a much better goalie. Still, was he hot?

Of course it was. It was an accident. Nobodies fault.
While it's impossible to say for sure, the way Emery played at the beginning of the year pre-injury makes me lean towards yes. I seriously doubt he throws up the dismal save % Leighton did, especially in the finals.

This, we could of had Wash or the pens in a round instead

No, that was bad goaltending at a terribly inopportune moment to have a brain fart and fail to cover not only the post, but to totally lose all compactness and good coverage down low. It was atrocious.
Polls are for strippers who want to take a break from having me shove old fashioned dollar bills down their panties. It was a magical run that blessed all of us for a 2 months. Leave it at that.
Washington and Pittsburgh were not better than us.
I say yes fairly easily.
You only need anyone semi-competent in net for the playoffs and we never run into an issue in Boston and we don't lose the finals to Chicago.
Maybe not, but the fact remains that we will never know based upon a 7 game series with them. Crosby has a certain habit of making the flyers look stupid.
Assuming the first three rounds would've gone mostly the same, I certainly feel Razor would've given us a better shot in the SCF. That said, in responding to the OP's question, no, I don't give Holmgren credit because Razor was a pretty dicey gamble that, even if successful, still left our goalie situation unsettled because Emery was only on a one-year deal.
If you have Emery and Hawks have Johnsson who wins?
People forget we lost a very good top 4 dman for rest of year (Ironically it was in game vs Flyers he suffered what looks to be the career ending injury)
