Jarred Tinordi: Play updates

I'll be seeing a lot of this guy this winter so I figured I'd just create the one thread for any insights that folks might have along with my own questionable opinions and play review throughout this Jr season

Last night Tinordi participated in a charity 4 on 4 against some NHL talent. It's not game that provides a good review for D play since the accent is on offensive tic tac toe plays and crowd entertainment. Current NHLers like Corey Perry, Dave Bolland, Rick Nash, John Carlson, Brandon Prust, Rob Schremp, Drew Larman, Krys Barch, John Tavares, and Danny Syvret took part.

The obvious stuff: Tinordi was easily the tallest guy there. Only Rick Nash at 6' 4" was in the same vertical area code (man would I love for the Habs to get Nash, but I digress). The kid is also pretty slender. He reminds me a lot of the way Chris Pronger looked when he played Jr for Peterborough. The good news is that he doesn't have that gangly uncoordinated look some kids of this stature have. It will be interesting to see what happens as this kid fills out

His skating is extremely smooth and almost kind of effortless looking in a way. He seems to use his size to accelerate instead of taking many quick strides. Skating is definitely a strength for a kid of this stature. He kept up with most guys on the ice

He did not get many opportunities to shoot. In the shootout phase at the end of the game, he scored one of the few goals and demonstrated fairly soft hands for a guy that size. He handled the puck cleanly but not in a flashy manner. Again, none of the "big guy gawkiness"

I don't know if it was just the nature of the game, but I did not like his passing much. Just a little too soft. Hard to say from the few opportunities. I'm going to watch that. I like a D guy that can put something on a pass

Next action comes Sept 3 when pre-season games start against the Sarnia Sting in London

Looking forward to it. I should be seeing a lot of a less prominent prospect in Mark MacMillan this year, I might do something similar.

Are you gonna be able to put some videos of him playing with the Knights ?

Your opinion and review will be much appreciated!

(I'll be sure to do some for Leblanc when he comes play against Chicoutimi)

I will try to do that.

Two obstacles: I'm almost always at the games, and I'm no technical whiz when it comes to putting together video.

Nothing insurmountable though

Get a phone that can do HD Video (iPhone 4, Galaxy S, etc) film it upload it.

If I had the cash I'd get one and film some plays of Leblanc.

Yes Namestnikov was there and will be playing for the Knights. ISS rankings have him at 9 for next draft. He appears to be skilled without being flashy if you follow my drift. That of course based upon seeing him play in a VERY artificial game environment. But the opportunity was there to be flashy (if he had it). He is by reputation a goal scorer. Led Russian Silver U18 team last year in scoring

Also OT: The Knights have a big Russian goalie already in town (Bobkov). HF review below. The process of securing his Russian release (always fun) is in progress

Nice idea. Looking forward to your updates.

I may be able to provide some insight on the play of Morgan Ellis, but I don't have season tickets for the Eagles so I won't see them regularly.

Last I checked, it's 129$ on a 3 year deal with bell. I'd rather pay the extra 400 to not be tied to that train wreck of a company. But congrats on your phone, keep me posted on how awesome it is, almost bought one today actually.

I think this is what Boards & forums were originally intended for.

I'd be interested if you can give us feed back on how he's improving on skating backwards & hitting, that's what I expect him to work on in his 1st year @ London.

Knights Jr camp opened Wednesday. I watched Tinordi play in one of the camp scrimmage games. I also saw him play last night in the 1st pre-season games

Observations:
Most fans are happy with his defensive play. Most thought he had a good game that way last night. I'd agree

For openers, Tinordi was paired with Scott Harrington (17 years old). Tinordi played the right side. This pairing (on paper anyway) has to be one of the best young pairings in the whole CHL. Frankly at this point in time I would say Harrington is the better player of the two. What Tinordi has is time to develop in a strong and competitive hockey league. He also has the advantage of potentially being a monster once he fills out

Shooting: I have seen Tinordi play 3 games now. In those games he has a grand total of 2 slapshots. One to clear the zone in last nights game. One as a shot on net in the scrimmage. The shot was average at best. A weakness? something to work on? Too early to tell

What Tinordi does do is use the wrist shot a lot. The good news is that it is a good wrist shot. He scored the opening goal in the scrimmage game by dropping down into the faceoff circle on the left side and wired a shot under the cross bars. In last nights game his best scoring chance saw him drop down to the top of the circle and wristed one just inside the right post. The goalie had to come up with a good glove save

Passing: for a guy with such a good wrist shot I still wonder why he can't make a pass with more zip on it. At least twice last nights passes that had little authority and were easily anticipated by forecheckers. I like to see a D man really put something on a pass. I think this is definitely an area that needs work

Hitting: Not much to report as it was preseason and hitting was kind of sparse. At least big hits anyway

Skating: No need to worry about skating. It is likely his best asset coupled with his size

Special teams: He was on the ice twice for power plays. He moved well and once he gets in the mix I can see him scoring some goals from the halfboards. Probably wrist shots. His passing will need more zip though

Miscellaneous. Unfortunately for Tinordi the refs made a bad call at the other end and gave the opposing team a power play. On the ensuing faceoff in the defensive end, London won the faceoff and Tinordi fired the puck over the glass trying to clear. 2 min delay of game. 5 on 3 pp. So what was a 5 to 3 home score with just over two minutes to go ended up tied by Galchenyuk with 8 seconds left

Next game is tonite but I doubt he is in the lineup as there are still 36 players on the roster for preseason try outs

You are welcome guys

One thing I want to add

Playing in the OHL was DEFINITELY the right move. Now that I have seen the kid's style of play and his skillset, I have no doubt there will be a significant shift in the way he plays.

Playing for Jackson on a weak ND team playing a defensive style of game, you would definitely see a totally different player show up in Mtl later. Of that I am certain
