Ek's latest guess on the Price negotiations...

Quote:
*UPDATE: I was just told we are entering a critical week in Carey Price negotiations with the Habs. "The first few days of this week will determine if Price has a future in Montreal or if he will be shipped for a quality forward and replaced with Antti Niemi."

I don't know did Eklund not read what Price's agent said? They will get a deal done it's not that hard to understand.

I guess that means Staal, Ryan, Neal, Hanzel etc will get traded as well.

The negotiations are taking long because the habs want to sign him long-term at a lower cap hit. Price wants do what Plekanec, Pouliot and others have done, sign 1 year at an acceptable amount and prove he is worth more to cash in.

lawl because its just so simple, shipping Price for a star forward and signing Niemi. Not like we settled a goalie debate and are suddenly too cheap to sign our franchise goalie or anything lmao

Eklund speaks as if Niemi's sitting at home waiting to see if Price stays in Mtl or not before moving on with his life.

Any negative comments towards Eklund will result in you receiving a warning or infraction.

That includes name calling boys and girls.

I have a legitimate question...

What if the negative comment is addressed towards his proposals? Would that result in an infraction? Also, would calling into question his proposal not be any different from calling into question the proposals of any other people on these boards, especially if you consider that most don't think of him an insider since he's never proved otherwise?

I don't have a problem if the comments are directed towards the rumours/proposals. The problem I have is when the comments are directed towards Eklund the person, name calling in particular.

The bottom line is Eklund is a registered member here on HF. So the rules that cover you and I, also cover him.

Explains some of his "rumors", I suppose...

In my opinion it's downright laughable to think the Habs are going to trade Price at this point. I'm far from a Price apologist either.

I agree, but I've been around long enough to know that stranger things have happened. At the moment it seems like both sides are at a stand still. If neither are willing to budge, we might just see Price traded.

There's still plenty of time to work things out though, so I'm not worried about this situation in the slightest. If he's not signed by the end of training camp, then I'll start to worrying and actually pay attention to the "Price will be traded" rumours.

What is better?

Niemi and a quality forward

or

Price

This is my only question. I don't think Price would ever be dealt, I just think you need to consider all of the options.

You're talking to a guy who is currently looking up at a large Carey Price poster on his wall..

I personally don't know what to think.. so I pose the question.

Depends entirely who the quality forward is.

Then you have to look at potential trading partners, those that might need a young potential franchise goalie.. From there you figure out if any of them have the assets we would be looking for. There really isn't a whole lot of trading partners out there, I'd imagine.

I could perhaps see a trade with San Jose based around Setoguchi... I have my doubts about Nitty getting the job done over there. No question Price would look great behind that team. Purely speculation and made up on the spot by myself.

*edit: love the avatar

What if Niemi doesn't want to sign with that team?

We have a lock jam on foward and tining out on goalies....this makes no sense.
I say Price gets a deal done with the habs for 2-3 years or perhaps longer.
IMO, PG let's him have the summer to clear his head and get ready for this up coming season.
PS:If Price only gets a one year deal, I will worry

How much cash, if any, would be saved by signing Niemi instead of Price? Who could we get for the balance? Cheap quality forwards dont come for free.

Same could be said for Price since he isnt signed either.

He is RFA and Montreal could keep his rights for the next 3 years...hints on weither he wants to be in the NHL. But I do understand what you are saying.

As a staunch Price supporter that's one question I've asked myself repeatedley. If we can manage to get a superior top 3 player i.e. Perry, Ryan etc AND sign Niemi, I can't say that it wouldn't help the Habs out tremendously and reshape the Habs into a serious contender. That being said, I HIGHLY doubt it would/will happen so it's a moot point. If the offer was made by another team, how can PG NOT listen and act on it? But if we shipped A. Kosty and Price, we should have close to enough for the following line up. With Hamr and Gill coming off the books next year, we'd also have enough cash (roughly $8M) to sign the UFA's and RFA's we'd like to keep as well.

Cammy- Gomez - Gio
Eller - Plex - Perry
Pouliot - Lapierre - Moen
Darch - Boyd - Pyatt

Markov-Subban
Hamr-Spacek
Gill-Gorges
OB

Niemi @ $2M so we'd have to clear a bit more space for this to work as I doubt we get him at $2M.

Auld

Not likely, but damn, that's one solid looking line up!
