Is Dowell enough at fourth line center?

Everyone seems to think Dowell has a lock on the spot but I am not convinced Jake Dowell will be able to cut it. Any chance the Hawks bring in a cheap free agent? If Dowell goes down then who replaces him? I am regretting the Reasoner trade...

Nope. Dowell is good on faceoffs, strong defensively, can chip in sparingly on offense, and is a great character guy. He'll be fine in a fourth line center role with some PK time.

Some people who have seen Dowell in the A seem to think that he is better than Fraser and should have gotten a spot earlier. My gut feeling is that he's ready. No need to get anyone else. The addition of Pisani added the needed experience and PK ability that was lacking in the bottom lines.

In the games that he's played for us, he's really stuck out. The Columbus game last year and the Thanksgiving game against Calgary a couple years ago come to mind. Great on faceoffs, will stick up for teammates, great character guy, and can score, but won't too much.

I love Dowell. He'll be great. Not worried about him at all.

if he produces at the pace of last season, we will have a player with ~54 points

I've been saying it all last year. He's easily a better option than either Burish/Fraser. Expect him to have a better NHL career then Bickell, a player everyone else seems unrealistically high on.

Taffe is probably your other faceoff guy. A pretty mediocre option.

I bet Dowell is better than Taffe, who IMO was brought in to replace Dowell on the Icehogs.

Honestly, I think Dowell is better than Fraser... Solid on faceoffs, good defensive awareness, and chips in some offense as well... he'll do well with a fourth-line role and some PK time.

Agreed, IMO he's better than Burish as well.

Dowell will be fine as a 4th line center, I wouldn't worry about him.
