Obviously, the DC game was one of this season's low points, and so it's difficult to judge what's right/wrong with the team going off of that game. However, during the broadcast, Dellacamera correctly pointed out that this team lacks a true attacking presence in central midfield, which really would be a great place to spend DP dollars, if the team's looking to do that.
At the start of the season, I expected Fred to have more of a central role, but he's stayed on the wing the whole season. Both he and Mapp aren't true wingers to me, as they both really seem to favor carrying the ball into the middle of the pitch from wide positions.
After an ugly first half against the Revs, it was nice to come away with three points. Mapp was, indeed, excellent once he got onto the pitch. I find myself doubting that he and Fred can coexist in the same midfield, since they both contribute a lot of the same things, and I have yet to see them both be good at the same time.
Also nice to see McInerney get into the game with more than 4 minutes left.
one of fred or mapp will be unprotected, prob fred. one of coudet or migs will be unprotected as well i think. once they subbed coudet the offense blossomed. not saying it was his fault, just saying he and migs are duplicates and shouldnt play together
Maybe a few more roster moves? You are talking a solid squad here.
To generate more excitement? The worst home crowd they've had was 16,128. It was on a Wednesday and there was a home Phillies game. The average attendance for the other six games at PPL Park was 17,850. It's not like people aren't showing up. There's been plenty of excitement.
As for the DP issue, sounds like you want DPs just for the sake of having them. I completely disagree. You really think it would have helped us if we had signed Branko Boskovic or Geovanni or Blaise N'Kufo this year? Barely. This is an expansion team. We're not winning any cups this year or next year, not even if they fly in Ronaldo or Kaka.
I'm not saying I don't want a DP. I'm saying the team doesn't need one to keep fans and I'm saying their holes are too big to fill with a short-term big-money player. They need to build from the ground up. They have some decent young players. They'll get a couple more in the next draft (three picks in the first two rounds).
I just think they are better off looking for more young talent and preparing for a couple years down the road than signing some older Euro players because people have heard their name before. Because once the novelty of actually having a pro soccer team in Philly wears off, the only things that will keep people in the seats are wins.

They won't leave Mapp unprotected. They brought him in knowing that he had kind of fallen off the map after all the hype earlier in his career and that he's a bit of a project. He looks old, but he's only 25. They'll at least work with him for a full season to see what happens.
Re: DPs - if you needed any further proof that they're not the end all, just ask Seattle how much Ljungberg helped them this season.
Re: Mapp - agreed that there's no way he gets left unprotected. Nowak and Hackworth love the guys the know from their USA U-23 days. Also, if I had to pick one of Chacho or Migs, I'd have to go with Migs - he's no-nonsense, settles things down. Hopefully Okugo renders them both irrelevant in a year or two.
Seitz has been terrible all season. They really need to find another goaltender.
Seitz was supposed to be an up and comer with potential, but he looks pretty bad out there.
However, he is only 23. Goalies take a long time to learn positioning and being able to foresee what the offense is going to do, so I am not too worried about it.
If we were contending I would look to bring in a goalie, but we aren't, so it's no biggie.
I wonder if a DP goalie would be an option down the road?

The problem is that if we had a good goalie, we WOULD be contending.
I don't care if he's 16, it's unacceptable for the goalie to singlehandedly cost us so many points.
This season was a complete waste for me. I was one click away from buying season tix before the season started but decided I couldn't afford it. Then I only got to watch one game and didn't make it to a single game. I was so stoked for the season and it just snuck right by me. Ugh. Perhaps next season.
