Preds re-sign Patric Hornqvist - 3 years, $9.25 million

Hey , just wondering if the Nashville Predator's Patric Hornqvist is a RFA ? According to TSN they say you guys didn't sign him yet. Is that true ?

He's an RFA. The contract is being negotiated. I'd imagine he'll be signed in the next few weeks.

Update on contract talks between the Predators and Hornqvist's camp:

Quote:
According to Patric Hornqvist's agent, Craig Oster of Newport Sports Management, negotiations are still proceeding with the Predators, with more talks having taken place this week at the NHL's Research & Development Camp in Toronto. With a month left before training camp opens, there's not the pressure of an urgent deadline here, and both sides seem confident that something will get worked out. Most encouraging is the word that a multi-year deal is being sought. "Everyone feels comfortable with each other, the team wants Patric and Patric wants Nashville," said Oster. The uncertainty around the collective bargaining agreement between the league and players (which expires in 2012) and the possible boost in revenue from a new US television contract (due next summer) don't stand in the way of a longer-term contract, either.

A spokesman for the Predators confirmed that things are moving forward. "both sides are being patient and cognizant of each others' concerns and arguments. I certainly wouldn't say an impasse has been reached."

Also of note from the same article...

Quote:
Oster, who also represents Shea Weber, said that talks haven't begun yet on a contract extension for the new captain, which confirms David Poile's earlier public statements that those negotiations probably won't get started until training camp.

Apologies. Bryan Little agrees to 7.15 over 3 years. 1.65M/ 2.5M / 3M. Cap hit is 2.38M
http://twitter.com/RealKyper/status/21913136489

All summer long this has been the contract I've been waiting for. Little has a 30 goal season under his belt, but did it one season too soon and fell back to earth last season, therefore he gets a multi-year deal just under the $2.5 million average that has been thrown around this summer...

I think the high and low are set now for both Hornqvist and Poile. 3 years, $7.5 million would be the high end and 3 years, $7.15 million is the low end...get it done!!!

There arr TWO good reasons: Horn thinks he can do this year after year. Preds aren't so sure. Horn wants a long contract. Preds want him to prove himself for more than 1 year before giving him a long contract.

Poile does seem to be slow this year. Preds have 6 remaining RFAs to sign. Dallas has 4. Everybody else has 3 or fewer.

Do Franson and Hornqvist have the same agent? And is that the same person that Weber has as an agent?

thank you very much for this information. And man it would be a dream for patric come over here but I know it won't really hoping to see this guy excel in the upcoming season. Definitely exciting times with the preds, new captain and a blooming star in hornqvist, loved the guy from a long time.

Umm, I don't know what list you are referring to, but it's out of date...

Poile has only two outstanding RFA's to sign (Hornqvist and Franson), Dietrich is still listed as an RFA and was qualified, but has signed a 3 year deal in the DEL and is therefore off the radar.

No, Franson and Hornqvist have different agents. Hornqvist and Weber share the same agent though...

it would be like having 2 Kessel's . If we did that... the sens would be in trouble.

Hornqvist signed (Can anyone read Swedish?)

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=812529

http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportblade...icle7668442.ab

This is a redirect from the main boards.

3 million is the number but all I see on the site is 700,000 Kronor.

But I can't read Swedish

I could give you a full translation, but it's nothing deeply profound. The numbers in that article are as the rumors say (they might even be from there?).
It says that his old salary was about 5.2 Mil Swedish Kroner. His new one will be around 22.5 mil Swedish Kronor. I think the exchange rate is at about 7.11 or so. Which makes is roughly 3 mil dollars.

that's a little pricier than I would have thought\hoped, especially given all the other comparables...longer term, maybe? or perhaps shorter, making him still RFA when it expires?

if 3 mil is in fact the number it will be interesting to see the term.

3 mil for one year following a 30 goal season is not unreasonable.

3 mil a year for 2 years is ok since he'll still be a UFA.

3 mil for 3 years is a bit of a gamble by poile but understandable given how rare homegrown 30 goal scorers are. could we get burned? sure, but we wouldnt be the first or the worst. And if it pays off, then its a steal...

I'll be shocked if its any longer than 3 years since that would make him a UFA

Yes.

The Nashville Predators have agreed to a new three-year, $9.25 million contract with star winger Patric Hornqvist, who led the team with 30 goals last season. Aftonbladet.se (try the Google Translater) posted the story this morning, and a Predators spokesman has confirmed it.

The deal will pay him $3 million in 2010-11 and 2011-12, and $3.25 million in 2012-13. He will be eligible for unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2013 at the conclusion of this deal.

Nice to have him signed. Now just have to wait for Franson to sign and then Weber's extension.
