Don't you think that Pronger was a closer comparison in his rookie year than Chara? Granted, he's 2" shorter than Myers, while Chara is an inch taller, but I remember that Pronger had more mobility then (and still does IMO) than Chara ever did/will. Obviously, he wasn't as fluid a skater as Myers but he did seem to move better than Chara, who was an admitted klutz in his first few seasons.

Granted, I also remember in Pronger's rookie year in Hartford how much he struggled defensively and that it took a few years before he became the rock he's been since.

I still think the best comparison is Nieds for Myers. Either way he's pretty untradable at this point.

The problem is that Myers value to the team is not aligned with what his "fair" trade value may be. There is absolutely no reason for Buffalo to even entertain the thought.

I forgot where I read it, but I remember a writer saying that Myers has the potential to be a bigger Niedermayer or a more skilled Pronger. That's saying a lot.

This is a hilarious thread.

Honestly, Miller would be traded before Myers is ever traded.

Getting a franchise defenseman through the draft is not something to be tossed aside lightly. It's easier to replace a starting goaltender than that.

Brad Richards, James Neal, and a 1st round pick?
What made you think that the Sabres would entertain any offers for a defenseman that just won the Calder Trophy at 19yo?

IMO it's interesting to consider what a 19 year old Calder trophy winning defensemen is worth. A lot, I suspect.

The last player of his ilk to be dealt was Pronger in 1995. He yielded one of the premiere powerforwards of his day in Brendan Shanahan (just a season removed from his second 50-goal/170+PIM season) and even he would manage 44 goals on a relatively weak Whale squad.

Teams just don't trade 19-year old Calder winning defensemen without outside forces being at play.

Personally, it would take an elite scoring center ala Stamkos, Malkin, or Crosby to make me think about moving Myers for longer than a nanosecond.

Jerry Jones' head on a stick; a public lynching of Jimmy Johnson and Michael Irvin sent off into seclusion never to be seen on TV again.

Pretty much. And not someone on an expiring UFA deal either.

There are 5 players I'd trade Myers for.

Crosby,Ovechkin,Malkin,Stamkos and Backstrom.

I went with those three as they are still in the "young" bucket to me.

Stamkos, with one year left on his ELC, would be the most enticing to me.
