Good stuff Van city. How do the lines look? Malhotra-Torres combo looks very promising for you folks.

Raffi Torres wants to win; good opportunity for the guy to get his career going and get into some more playoff hockey. Former 27 goal guy who is most definitely going to see some PP time in front of the net this season; we needed one of these hard-nosed net types to start causing some crease havoc out there. We've got the talent and the bombs from the point...need a few more guys like this to get in the tough spots.

Top line looks set when Burr comes back:
Sedin Sedin Burr
Raymond Kes Samuelsson
Torres Hodgson Malhotra

before that it'll be

Sedin Sedin Samuelsson
Raymond Kes Hodgson
Torres Malhotra Hansen

4th line is anybody's guess

Hopefully it's an omen and he can continue to score when there's Canuck uniforms on the ice.

For the price, I like this signing. He could go either way though.....
He's scored as many goals against Vancouver as the next 2 highest teams combined.

I was watching sportsnet an hour ago, and saw it in the ticker at the bottom.

When I saw it, I stood up and said to myself, "holy f***ing s***!"

What a bargain!

Nice work.

Look at his stats for April though. Seems to disappear in the playoffs. That worries me a bit....

he was a scratch this season and was put in primary roles in the past. That's clearly not his skill set to be in the top6.

He should be decent (bernier production) this season

Hat's off to Mr DinoD. It seemed like another made up troll attempt, so I apologise.

This team should be deadly this year. I'm really trying to keep my expectations low.

15 points in 30 games is about average for what he does (had 11 points in 22 games when the Oilers went to the finals after scoring 41 points in 82 games).

That's precisely what Buffalo wanted him to do and he failed. We didn't need him to be a goal machine (we were counting on Vanek/Roy/Connolly/Pominville to drive the offense), but make our lineup less soft while occasionally contributing on offense, and he was invisible more often than not. Turns out our lineup was tougher to play against with 5'5" Nathan Gerbe than Torres.

A few things to keep in mind.

First of all, 24 games is a ridiculously small sample size. Players go through ruts all the time.

Second of all, he's played 50-70 games in every other month.

Lastly, he has a career 15 points in 30 playoff games (again, small sample size). I'm not too worried about this guy being able to bring it when it counts.

Great signing... makes an interesting battle for the 2 spots on the 3rd line between Hodgson, Hansen, and Torres with the loser likely on the 4th line (unless its Hodgson). Guess this completes our team and at a price much lower than expected.

In one fell swoop, DinoD destroys Eklund (if only people would quit going to that hack's site).

I did not believe in the DinoD but I have been shown the light. Although I would like another confirmed report. Nothing against Dan Murphy but he's not your typical hockey insider.

I just arrive in San Franciso and am getting ready for my connection so I haven't read the entire thread, etc.

Him bringing it is more of a case of being physical and not getting scored on in the playoffs.

Torres' playoff production seems to be on pace with his regular season production. So I'm not too worried.

He signed here because he wants a good contract next summer. Playing on a good team this season could boost his value.

I agree, but I can't say I've actually bothered to watch most of his playoff games (or pay special attention to Torres, anyways).

The stats have him at even +/- and producing over his career average in the playoffs. That seems good enough for me, at least good enough to not raise any red flags.

This is a guy that definately expected to be paid a lot more then what he ended up with. There's no doubt in my mind that he'll be motivated and hopefully will be at his best.

At worst he'll go to the fourth line while Hansen makes his way up.

All that needs to be done now is get Mitchell signed and if possible add another 4th line center (Begin would be GREAT!!!)

Typical fan reaction is to rejoice and over-rate the newly acquired player. I am more cautious, particularly with this signing.

He brings good size and he's not fun to play against, but I'm not a fan of his consistency nor the question marks surrounding his character. He doesn't kill penalties, although he can certainly chip in offensively from time to time.

I see him slotting in on any line - 2nd, 3rd, 4th - depending on whether he's hot or cold on any given day. I'm not a huge fan of his defensive game (although that's only based on what I've read), so being on the third line would probably be an interesting experiment.

With everyone healthy:

------------------------------

Sedin - Sedin - Samuelsson
Raymond - Kesler - Hansen
Burrows - Malhotra - Torres
Glass - Bolduc - Rypien
Hordichuk
Oreskovich

Hamhuis-Salo
Edler-Ballard
Ehrhoff-SOB
Rome

------------------------------

I would say Alberts is most likely the first guy on the chopping block, if Gillis can get a late-round pick for him. Not bringing up Hodgson/Schroeder saves cap room and allows them time to develop in the AHL.

Turned the series around for the Oilers in '06. Dirty hit but we've seen so many of these

Did Torres and Malhotra play together in Columbus?
