Y'know what I hate about the idea of any of Guerin, Fedo, Nolan, Kariya et al coming to Flyers?

Putting these has-beens into 3rd line roles deprives youngsters of important third line minutes and experience.

May be ok for a team crying out for veteran 'leadership' and presence', but for pete's sake, Flyers dont need that. Prongs, Timo, et al... provide enough of that locker room presence and intangible bla bla .. that vets are supposed to be so good at providing.

I HATE geriatrics in third line roles. If they're good enough to beat out someone for a Top 6 role, play em. If they're not, sc544 them.

Putting em into third line prevents and delays other youngsters from gaining that experience, inhibits their development.

What great young prospects do we have waiting for those third line roles?

I want Giroux and JVR playing second-line minutes, and apart from them we have no youngsters I really care about. If we can sign a veteran to be a better hockey player this year (while we're trying to win) than one of the youngins, then you go with the better player.

it sucks that afinogenov signed with russia, hed be the perfect fit. takes care of the right winger we want at a better age and hes russian. alot better than those horrible kozlov rumors that were around right after we signed zherdev. im anti gettin any older than we are already.

We don't even have room for a top 9 player, so there is no point in adding Guerin now.

As it is, we're going to have to sit Powe or Lappy to make room for Shelley (after Betts comes back).

In the interim, any of Nodl, Kalinski, Legein, Maroon or Laliberte could fill in, with Testwuide, Holmstrom and Harper as longer shots probably in need of a year or two in the AHL.

I'd rather give one of those kids a short term fill in role than was what little cap space we have to sign a vet.

Better to trade/waive Walker and sign Niemi for $2.5 million and keep Oskars on the roster.

Holmgren doesnt like or trust any of our young defenseman. All of the moves made this offseason(well most of them anyway) are indictive of that. So i wouldnt hold my breath on Matt Walker getting traded or waived.

Somewhat agree with that and makes it even funnier that he drafted all of them. Walker isnt going anywhere. Just a shame he isnt making 800k. Then there would be few complaints.

what you have defined is that the organization has no defensive depth. i would not count on seeing marshall and bourdon any time soon if ever.

Bill Guerin?

Panotch is reporting that Guerin is working out in Flyers gear, and hoping for a tryout. I read from Andy Strickland earlier in the week that he was asked if he was interested in re-joining the Blues, and Guerin said he'd only play for a contender.

So...is it possible to have TOO MANY NHL forwards?

If he signs cheap (which I'm certain he would) he would be great for our third line.

It's too bad there isn't a guy like Simon Gagne available to provide a veteran presence on the wing while also adding some offense...

If he looks fine on the 3rd line why not? Limit his minutes and he will be a good vet presence for the forwards.

Couldn't hurt especially if he can help mentor JVR

45 points last season (would have been good for 6th overall on the Flyers). 46 the season before. Stanley Cup rings. Yeah I'll take him in a second.

Im not sure he is washed up, 45 pts last year - 21 g - sounds good to me - do we expect that from Carcillo? ( I think he CAN be capable of it, but probably won't reach it )

I'd take his leadership, IQ, and strength over Carcillo's and Shelly.

And I really like what Carcillo can do...... soo..... yes, I'd welcome him.

You are then in a sit. where you can say Shelly is expendable and O'donnel and Walker can step up the phyiscal play.... we have enough grit that we can lose Shelley...I think so anyway.. No TRUE heavyweight, but I think we'd be okay - as Lavy is not a huge fan of fighting only when needed, and Shelley wouldn't be used that much? would he?

lol.

Anyways, I don't mind him getting a tryout. He's old and washed up though so I'll be absolutely pissed if he gets a contract.
