Lightning sign Randy Jones

http://lightning.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=536434

Quote:
“Randy is a skilled defenseman, capable of playing in all situations on both the right and left side,” Yzerman said. “His addition gives us some needed depth on the blue line."
Somewhere Gagne is saying "Wtf Yzerman?"

Yzerman is a good GM

I could make more lol references, but this is just sad. TB is becoming Flyers-lite.

Except their defense is the stuff of comedy films.

Hey, Randy Jones showed flashes of being a #1 defenseman here. He could still develop into an outstanding d-man under Stevie Y.

Or he could trip over his own skates in the defensive zone and hit his head on the crossbar.

I wonder what they paid for him? And will he be in the minors or with the Lightning?

Randy Jones isn't necessarily a bad defenseman to have on your depth chart, as long as he's making very, very little money and kept away from the other team's better players.

Kubina, Ohlund, Hedman, Clark, Lashoff, Lundin, Smaby, and Jones.

That's 8 defensemen, but he might not even be the worst.

Maybe Yzerman just needs a human sacrifice to keep the hockey gods who have been setting up his every move happy?

I think he will only be worth it if he is paid only 1M at most.

Tampa Bay does not have a defense that can make the playoffs.

To quote a fellow hockey writer, who actually just said this earlier today oddly enough, "Randy Jones does not belong in the NHL."

This still doesn't make up for the fact we traded Gagne for nothing.

Holmgren made his own bed, and Gags would only sign for Yzerman.

That couldn't be helped unless Holmgren had any foresight.

Gagne was my favorite, but I'm over it.

That said, it always makes me happy to laugh at the misfortunes of another organization, especially one with some cocky fans who have constantly told me this summer that their defense is playoff caliber, maybe even "one of the best in the East if Hedman breaks out."

Yes, that quote is real, and Randy Jones is their big acquisition to round out their "defensive depth."

That wasn't true. He talked to 10 teams. You don't talk to teams unless you're willing to go there.

You talk to teams to find our where you want to go.

You think I'll believe you over Philly beat writers?

At least we can enjoy a highlight reel goal or 10 when giroux, jvr, carter, zherdev, leino, briere, carle, coburn, hartnel, richards, carcillo find themselves one on one with Jones.

I can't wait for this little bit of justice.

Welcome back to the Eastern Conference, Randy. You couldn't have picked Pittsburgh or Washington?

Well the story was that he did talk to 10 teams or so, but only wanted to go to Tampa.

There were a handful of teams, maybe five or six, that Gagne was actually willing to waive his no-trade clause for.
That is from a Philly beat writer, who I was just told apparently never said this.

There's also the one that said he spoke to 10 teams that I keep referring to.

You only need to waive your NTC for one team if you already know that's where you're going.
