Randy is a horrible defenseman. We didn't want him, the kings certainly didn't want him, and tampa are about to learn what Rage really is

Walker, I'm looking at you.
How much was Jones signed for with the Flyers? I can't remember. Definitely wasn't $1 million.

FWIW, I hate Randy Jones, but I would have no problem having him back for $1 million.

Edit: He was making $2.75 million? Wow.

I'm kind of shocked he even got 1M, but I would have been fine with him for that amount.

Man I would love to have his personal email so I could ask him how he feels about that "next contract" interview now. Dumb Ass.

For 1-year and 1M, he's fine. He's a bottom pairing guy, maybe a 2nd pairing when he's "on".

Yeah, one of the most inexplicable contracts ever handed out. I don't know how Holmgren watched him all year long and thought to himself, "Yeah, this is a good use of resources."

Probably rated his potential higher than anyone else who has eyes would have.

If he did "break out" (which he wasn't going to) it might have been a good deal. So much for that.

Or it was a master plan the entire time to dump him, re-enter and have the Kings get him out of the Flyers system. If that's the case, Holmgren is a genius.

I can see it. Walker and O'Donnell get hurt. instead of bringing up Bartulis he will trade a 3rd rounder for Jones.

I was still halfway convinced Homer was gonna be an even bigger dumb-dumb and bring him back in.

Kind of figures JXC is the one posting tribute videos.

Anyways, I remember when LA claimed Randy off of waivers and how some of them were hoping or thought that Jones would do well on a new team.

He was garbage the whole time, he just didn't smell bad yet.

Even I thought he would do better.

Oh well, the people here who will follow the Lightning and watch more of their games this year will feel the pain I felt when I was still stuck watching him every night with the Kings.

Yes but TB was at the top of the list and how many of those ten teams had the money to get Gagne? Of those, how many had foreseeable ability to re-sign him?

It was a unilateral deal, period.

The only critique is that he was so bent on moving Gagne. The theory on moving a player in the final year of his deal is to get something rather than get nothing. The Flyers still got nothing.

Gagne should have been retained until his contract was up, then put on the open market. Gagne+2nd for Meszaros+4th is dumb, we didn't need either piece we got back. We'd have to shave down Shelley, too, OH NO! Keep Gagne, let him walk for nothing next Summer.

If Meszaros is Paul f'ing Coffey, then OK, move Gagne, no choice on the poor return.

It was back around he signed his last contract with the Flyers. He talked about how he was going to be able to set himself up for the next one.

Yep, Jones basically announced that:

1) He was all about maximizing the contract he was signing that time around (fine).

2) That he wanted it to expire in 2 years so that he could be an UFA and sign his next big one.

3) Complete lack of any care whatsoever about the team he was signing with... which, again, is fine, but doesn't exactly make me care one way or the other if he's around.

Now, I kind of assume every player is conscious of this at some level (hope his agent tells him), but I assume for most they have enough tact (lack of stupidity) to not openly discuss this as they commence a two year deal paying them 5.5M dollars (which they don't deserve).

It's not even that Mezsaros came with the deal -- it's the ******** of salary for Walker that really, really, REALLY tips the scale.

Well, he took care of himself by putting himself first (he said it himself, as you posted) instead of the team that he said he didn't want to leave (then saying 'life goes on'), got sent to the minors, and won't even make as much as the cap hit the Kings took on. When he signed his contract two years ago, I don't think he was banking on his next one being a 1-year $1M deal that he had to sign with a mediocre team and had to wait until late August to do it.

Randy Jones for 1M might not be too bad if he could find his play from the 07/08 season somehow. He wasn't terrible back then, he even managed to look decent together with Kukkonen for a while if I remember things correctly.

What I saw from him last year though, I mean... that was barely AHL level.
