CKAC radio's program 'Sports du lit' has been a fount of info this morning.
On another thread, I brought up an interview between Donald Meighan & Michel Langevin about the status of Andrei Markov's rehab. Meighan says it looks like Markov could be back near the beginning of the season.
But, for the case of this thread, Meighan talked to Langevin about Markov's contract situation with the Canadiens.
Meighan stated that Mr. Gauthier wanted to wait until after Markov comes back into the line-up before he begins negotiations. He said: Mr. Gauthier "wasn't definite as to when (the negotiations) would be exactly but he felt that it would be at some time that both sides would deem that it was appropriate."
When questioned by Langevin about the idea that the injury having a major impact on negotiations, Meighan said: "I don't think so. I don't think it would be accurate to say that but the best person to respond to that would be Pierre Gauthier."
As to Markov's feelings about Montreal, Meighan wouldn't nail anything positive or negative. Meighan also stated that Markov's Canadian citizenship was a separate issue with regards to the negotiations with the Canadiens.
Not a whole lot new there, I know but, at least it's from the 'horse's mouth'.
Again, for those who understand French, here's the link:
Markov may be back for start of season as per Don Meehan
I was listening to CKAC radio station this morning and Michel Langevin, the commentator was talking to Don Meehan and he confirmed that Andrei Markov is ahead on his return date because everything is going well on his recuperation.
No sour grapes but I already put this info as an add-on to the "Markov status" thread.
I guess the posters didn't clue onto it. So, I'm going to copy what I wrote in my post as a contribution to this one - just to add my flavour to it.
Here goes: "Again, listening to CKAC radio, there was an interview with Don Meighan with regards to a variety of issues (Donald Fehr, Kovalchuk's contract, etc.)
But, for our interest, Meighan told Michel Langevin, the host of the program "Sports du lit", that he expects that Markov may very well be ready to come back by the beginning of the NHL season. The expression Meighan used is: "I think that that's going to be very close."
At that statement, Meighan was questioned by Langevin regarding the fact that it was expected that Markov wouldn't be back till almost Christmas time. Meighan added: "he's been training well, his rehab has been good" and "my (Meighan's) understanding is that it wouldn't be that late at all." Meighan seemed to back off a bit when he said: "My hope is that it will be somewhere near the start of the season but we'll see how his rehab continues."
Hmmm.... is this just for the public's ear? Is it an expression of expectations? Is it a statement of a fact?
