Good price, I was worried they were going to overpay him. He's good but not worth 2-3 mil per yr yet.

Official Statement...

Quote:
Dallas Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk announced today that the hockey club has agreed to terms with defenseman Nicklas Grossman on a two-year contract worth $3.25 million ($1.5 million in 2010-11; $1.75 in 2011-12). This extension puts Grossman under contract through the 2011-12 season.

“We are very happy to sign Nicklas to this new contract,“ said Nieuwendyk. “He is a solid NHL defenseman and is an important part of our young core.”

Good signing, pleased it is under the rumored price of $2 million/year.

The $2 million thing was probably for a longer term deal.

Like has been said, good job and good signing.
Not too much for a young dman who I think will have a very solid year for us.

I guess I'm the one guy on the forum that isn't thrilled with this signing.

For Grossman to earn this contract, he better at the very least develope a) a shadow of an offensive game or b) a much more consistent mean streak.

As far as Niskanen is from reaching his potential as an offensive defenceman, I'd say Grossman is just as far away from being a productive defensive defenceman. A good example of what we should be hoping for is for him become comparable to Matt Greene on LA.

Regher at 4.1? Considering everyone seems to want to overpay in assets for him, this is okay anyday.

I don't think Regehr is worth anything near his contract either. Same goes for Komisarek and Willie Mitchell.

The one thing I will say is that hopefully the coaching staff adjusts Grossman's role on the team and gives him around 10-12 minutes of ES time against secondary scoring threats on the opposition and then all of the PK time he can handle. Putting him out there with Robidas and the top line didn't work.

I dunno. I think Grossman is perfectly capable of 2nd pairing duties. The struggles he and Robidas had as a pair are just as much Robidas fault as they are Grossmans, IMO. Grossman is a guy whos good enough right now to be paired with a defensively responsible player as a pair that can completely shut teams down. Unfortunately Robidas is often too busy chasing big hits to really be in any kind of good position.

Who else do you want to throw out there?

Niskanen?

Skrastins?

Woywitka?

It's not like we have a lot of good options at the moment.

Provenzano appears to know how to negotiate with the Swedes at least.
