Thank you. Until Grachev pots 20 goals and starts playing consistently well in the AHL there is no way he is making it to NY. There were many times last year where I completely forgot we even had him on Hartford because he hadn't done anything.
Kennedy is a solid signing because he is a guy who can play at the NHL level and provide depth. We do have alot of depth but that never hurts. If anything, it keeps those guys who are on the bubble on their toes and makes training camp very interesting knowing that there are more candidates than spots. I like what is going on here...finding people who are going to push for spots and make camp an actual competition rather than a formality.

what scoring depth did hft have last season, leading to teams keying on grachev?
last camp and this camp are 356 days apart, lets give him a chance to prove what he can do with the big boys this pre-season before we kill him.

Sather, focus on the goal. We have so much depth (and bad ones at that) that it's ridiculous. What is he trying to do? All these players are going to hate each other - literally ~15 players are fighting for ~5 spots or so.
Sign Staal, remove Redden. Be done with it.
Lol... People will never be satisfied. We just picked someone up who is a decent player w/o having to give anything up. Stepan, Grachev, Kreider, MZA all probably need a season or so, so it doesn't hurt to have a little depth to juggle lines with and stay competitive, and Ranger fans are still unhappy with an RFA who has little leverage in contract area and the Rangers are holding out on him so they can get a good contract and keep him into his UFA season, and a guy who can't be waived until the season comes around.
So technically you are crying over 2 things which because of a timeline can't actually happen yet, and then you are pissing on a decent move where we got something for nothing and worst case scenario, the nothing we give up turns into nothing which means we lose... NOTHING.
I swear some people just can't be pleased.
On top of the fact that Tim Kennedy is a good enough player to be thrown into a trade and will give back decent value... When we picked him up as a UFA!
Grachev showed absolutely nothing last season to suggest he's ready to jump into the NHL, and Weise is a borderline NHL fourth-liner who everyone fell in love with because Clark name-dropped him a few times. If they can't beat Kennedy for a spot in the line-up, they don't deserve to be in NY. We're not talking about a grizzled vet taking time from kids here. Kennedy's 24 years old with a fair bit of promise himself, and if this signing proves true, we get him for nothing but salary. If he works out, great. If not, Hartford needs more quality forwards.
Exactly. I have high hopes for Grachev, but if he can't beat out Tim Kennedy (or Avery or any one of 3-4 other forwards), then he doesn't deserve to play on the big club. Personally I think he may force the issue this year, but if Evgeny makes the club out of camp NEXT year, he'll still only be a 21 year old rookie.
Love this signing. Young, skilled and if it doesn't work out he's a cheap option to improve HFD. Still young enough that if he does get sent down he won't be bitter (one assumes), but rather focused on making it back to the show. No lose situation - depending of course on the salary. But given Buffalo bought him out IIRC, we may well be getting him close to the league minimum.
It's not THIS signing that annoys me - it's moves like re-signing Prospal and signing Frolov (even though I think he'll play well for us) to be stop-gaps when guys like this are available for the same purpose.
Pretty nice at first glance. Had 50 assists in Hartford two years ago, so if anything he will provide some depth up there.
Scored 26 points last season playing around 13 minutes a night, which isn't bad. Kind of small though, which may be a problem. Might be another player we can rotate with our more skilled players and hope some kind of chemistry forms
Before everyone gets upset, realize that Sean Avery had almost similar numbers last season... and technically he's getting paid 4 million bucks. Tim Kennedy is 6 years younger and will make only half of what we have to pay Avery
I would kill someone if Christensen was on the 1st line and Dubinsky on the 3rd. Would the the worst use of assets this team would have committed in a while.
I'm not sure imo, I think the coaches are going to give him every opportunity to be a main stay based on his physique. Yeah he needs to improve, but as Torts showed he used him on 5 on 3's at certain times because of his defensive awareness/background. Is Boyle terrible? No. I want to see him throw the body around more and use his body and go to the net. Even mix it up more. If Boyle can take his game up a notch, having 2 guys 6'7 on a line can spell trouble for other teams in their end but at the same time they're slow as ****

You are what you are. Boyle is a big guy, but he's never going to use his size the way we all want him to.

Then consider Anisimov's line the third, I dont really care. That is the best roster this team can field in terms of overall talent distribution and chemistry. It is just a little soft.
"2nd" and "3rd" lines get equal even strength time in this scenario, and of course Dubinsky plays on the power play.

$1 million for Kennedy? Will find hard to believe the Rangers are paying that much. Closer to the NHL minimum than $1 million. Gotta figure Staal is not far from signing.

All I'm saying is if you think that the Rangers signing Tim Kennedy to a league minimum contract on August 30th is there way of "pushing" Sean Avery, you're clueless.
Interesting to note for those of you commenting on Boyle's speed. He has been working with a speedskating specialist in the offseason.
