A single season is enough, but was Kovalev a top-10 player that season really?

What is bigger proof of that if not that he is in 2nd All-stars team..
Just counting.. 1,2,3,4,5...first team...6,7,8,9,10...second team. He is there!

I would say yes. Top 10 in Hart voting and a 2nd team all star. He was a force that season.

Not even close to Top10 forward that year ofc.
Weber? Top 10 defenseman. I don't know if that counts though.

Last time I checked, there were 6 players on each AST.

On, the other hand, what franchise do you think is the most lucky in terms of having top-10 talent?

Pittsburgh is certainly the most lucky about having Top-1 talent.

Boston always had a Top-10 guy -- before trading Thornton actually. But Chara could be up there.

Yzerman - Fedorov (briefly) - Lidström (for 10+ years) - Datsyuk

Your logic is flawed in my opinion. You assume that the 2nd best left wing is better than the 5th best center.

Eighth in the league in points in 1985-86, second AST, led his team in points during both the regular season and the playoffs.

For a brief but shining moment he seemed to be it.

Then came the slash and for some reason was never the same.

I'd say his battles with depression had more to do with him not reaching lofty heights his physical gifts should have enabled him, rather than the slash. He did have his best statistical season after that happened.
