Either Leighton+Walker+pick(s) for signed Price or Price agreed to sign.

Or

Walker + pick(s) for signed Price or Price agreed to sign.

MTL signs Niemi

Boucher/Leighton waived/traded.

What GM in their right mind would give up something of value for Matt Walker + Picks?

I'd sign Niemi or Theodore. Then trade to clear space.

Depends on the picks. Walker would be the salady dump there.

In the other hand, should we trade our picks for a goalie if the only promising prospects in the system are two goalies...

edit: Oh, and don't underestimate the value of Walker. Matty + 4th equals Gagne.

If we ever aquired price, i would litterally fill my pants with glee. The kid is a superstar, unfortunatley. I think there is bob hope and no hope that we manage to prize him away from MTL.

Not a chance that they trade him after letting halak go, and no chance in hell that they let him go to a eastern team.

However, should there be a three team trade in place, that could make things significantly more interesting. Say the kings come in with a good deal for price, then bounce price to us for one of our better roster players. I would be again more than happy.

I want no part of Theodore. Holmgren already said he has no interest in Niemi. So who the hell knows. he really cant think that Leighton and Boucher can work can it?

The same idiot GM who traded their real # 1 before signing their backup plan.
I would like Price, but if they are going to trade him here the asking price would be too much to handle.
They'll cough up the dough in MTL, they have no choice as all the chips are in Price's corner.

Wouldn't it make sense for the Flyers to sign Niemi for his 2.5 mil arbitration award? Price is trying to get a minimum of 3 for multi-year. Niemi seems like a better contender anyway. Other than Habs' decision to deal away Price's competition, he doesn't have much leverage in negotiations, as he has not performed to expectations. Niemi has outperformed expectations, although there is still a question mark about his ability to handle a full-load of a #1, as he pretty much split last season with Huet.

Flyers would be better off not giving up any huge pieces to obtain their goaltending option.

I could definitely see Niemi going to a team that we believe is already set with goaltending, and then the established goalie being shipped out to someone else who needs him.

Truth be told, I think the best option would be to sign Niemi and have him and Leighton serve in tandem as the 2 #1s, and let one establish himself as the load-bearer. Neither has had the lion-share of the regular season work before.

Of course you realize, if we bring in ANY other #1 goalie, that will be when our low-priced Boucher is going to step up and steal the #1 spot through spectacular play, just because we finally committed money elsewhere, and then Homer's original plan will look pretty good. But who knows, maybe I'm just a cynic.

if we (somehow) acquire price, or any other goalie, im a bigger fan of dumping leighton and his 1.55 million. i fear next year's cap situation.

Forgot to add: "plus the cap room to add a new 3rd pairing by acquiring Meszaros and signing O'Donnell.'

Hartnell would probably be a good fit in Montreal.

Hartnell for Price straight up would be a decent deal if the Flyers could afford to deal him.

Pity poor Price if the Flyers traded Leighton in a package for Price and then Montreal beat us in the first round of the playoffs.....

Just as a reminder: Niemi is overrated.

Compared to whom? I thought he played very well against Vancouver and San Jose, and then again for most of the finals.

Compared to the ghost of Terry Sawchuk he's overrated, compared to having Michael Leighton as starter, maybe not so much....

Difference between the real Antti Niemi and his hype is not really a tiny thingie.

Sure he's better than MFL, but not that much so it'd be worth the hassle. Would have to either waive Boosh/Leights or trade one of 'em to somewhere (while great majority of teams are set with their goalies). Then negotiate the price given by the arbitrator down by a good chunk with Niemi and his agent.

Best option would be to trade Leighton for Price (add prospects of your like to sweeten the deal). It sure as hell doesn't seem to be happening, but one can dream...

The hate for Antti Niemi is unbelievable. We're painting him out to be the next Dan Cloutier, he's much better than what we've got right now.

Niemi signed in SJ, so the probability of this happening is 0%, compared to the 0% it was at before.

The only Habs fan who would love to see that happen would be ol Andre "RedLight" Racicot. He would be able to officially retire that nickname and hand it over to Auld/Leighton.

Where is this being reported? I just checked the Sharks' site and TSN and neither are posting it.
