Sure, most post-2nd rounders may never see the NHL and Detroit is surely an exception, but it's because they want to be an exception. They work to make sure they can develop from within. But we get almost nothing out of those rounds year in and year out it seems. I'm sure that someone can point out a few example that may show otherwise, but our scouting could and should be deeper. What if your first round and second round picks don't pan out (as many of ours have not, same goes for other teams as well)? And considering we trade picks for players all the time. It's an issue with this organization.

Forwards seem to be a non-issue, but when is the last time, for example, the Flyers drafted AND developed a reliable, minute-crunching defenseman? Pitkanen? How about a goalie? Cechmanek?

I was thinking Niemi, and the sad thing is I wouldn't be completely against Theodore as of now.
