How many soft goals can you say Niemi gave up? Not very many. Leighton gave up at least 1 in every game.
Including the goal that won Chicago the cup. My money would be on Niemi saving that one.

I doubt the Flyers made any moves, once Turco, Nabokov and Mason said no thanks they pretty well committed to this tandem.

The only thing that suggested Homer might have interest in Niemi was his statement about wanting a goalie who could be a part of the team well into the future but that doesn't describe Niemi. Despite his youth, he was looking at a one year deal and any modestly successful campaign would have meant a raise next year. Not only are we committed to Leighton for this year, the second $1.55M year on his deal and our cap situation basically means a two-year commitment.

I never heard that Homer ever made a contract to Mason.

I am not sure there was a formal offer but both Philly and the Devils contacted Mason in late June.

I didn't get to see it and I didn't get to see most of the Habs series until about a month ago.

How would you know that if it wasn't made public?

We played the Devils in round one.

Are you going to tell him that he has to make a new sign for each round?

Why wouldn't he? It costs, what, $2.00?

Any apparent fatness is probably just an optical illusion caused by Niemi lifting the Cup.

That's the comeback I'd use, if I were him.

lol. Like any of you have any idea whether or not he spoke with those guys 'with permission' or without.

All of you seem to be so fixated on who Homer didn't sign because it seems like you can't fathom the thought that the goalies he wanted to didn't want to sign here. All signings are two way streets - if the player doesn't want to be here, there's nothing you can do.

Turco is an example - he turned down 3yr/6m to take 1yr/1.5m. It's his right. But if you think you can do better and you've already said no to prevoius offers, you can't expect them to make that same offer again after the fact.

I wouldn't.

I'm not comfortable with Leighton either, but the majority of you are under the assumption that Homer made 0 effort to contact other goalies - and you flat out, have no idea.
