More Moves?

CAP SPACE (according to capgeek) $1,378,273

Pouliot, Benoit - Gomez, Scott - Gionta, Brian
Cammalleri, Mike - Plekanec, Tomas - Kostitsyn, Andre
Boyd, Dustin - Eller, Lars - Lapierre, Maxim
Moen, Travis - -Pyatt, Tom - Darche, Mathieu
????

Markov, Andrei - Spacek, Jaroslav
Hamrlik, Roman - Subban, P.K.
Gill, Hal - Gorges, Josh
O'Byrne, Ryan
Picard, Alexandre

Is it set, the remaining place for a youngin, and save the cap space for later? Or do we pick up someone for that much?

Looking at that line-up, I really don't know what to think of the upcoming season.. A lot of question marks.

Kostitsyn, Boyd, Eller, Pyatt, Darche, White, and obviously Carey Price and Auld.

I say there is still the trade, Montreal has to play O'Byrne and Subban regularily,

One of Spacek Gill or Hamrlik has to go.
My bet is on Spacek being moved and Montreal going with the following duos

O'Byrne Markov
Subban Hamrlik
Gorges Gill
Weber Carle

We must have more space than that as you've got Markov in the lineup. If he's out for 15-20 games that's a significant savings.

No they don't. Hamrlik and Spacek need to stay, at least until deadline.
Having MArkov-Subban-Hammer-Spacek is the most positive thing going into next season. If Hammer and Spacek can get a little less ice time and be the efficient Dmen we know they can be, then we could have a very solid top 4.
Our defense is safe and O'Byrne can have a regular spot next season, he'll be the perfect replacement for Gill.

I don't think Gauthier will make any other moves. We have about 1.4M in cap space, there's really no point in getting a role player for that price when we have many youngsters that can fill that role.
MaxPac, White and Darche are going to battle for the last roster spot as I expect Boyd and Eller to start the year here.

A middle of the road 6-8th place finisher with the help of a hot goalie. If Price falters it will e over soon.

We don't have much size and grit but I would still like to see us trade away Moen somewhee to free up 1.5M. Then go out and get a more ofensively skilled winger for our 3rd line from the free agent pool.

I know it won't happen though, if it was the plan we would have just kept Moore.

without moen, that means only one player on the habs forward corps that throws 100+ checks a season.

yeahhh you should kind of re-think that one...

I think White and Pacioretty make the team as 3rd and 4th liners and Picard is sent down or beat out by Carle if Markov's still injured.

Honestly, unless Weber or Carle have amazing training camps where they consistently show something useful on the PP, Picard is going to be on the team. Heck I'd go as far as saying he's starting. Every year we think that some forward on our team will magically become the point man on the PP, and every year we fill the gap with a so-so d-man who has a good shot. Look over the last 3 years: Old man Schneider comes in late in the season and saves the day. MAB comes last year and does the same. And this year? Neither Subban or Markov are shoot first guys. Hammer is past his prime. Spacek should be the guy, but we all saw what happened last year.

Basically, all to say that if no one surprises at camp, everything points to Picard simply replacing MAB. I have a feeling that O'byrne will constantly be fighting Picard for ice-time, much the same way he did with MAB. And the same issue will arise: Picard can play on the PP, O'byrne can't.

Long term Injured players don't count against the cap. That being said with the cap we have left we can sign a $5M player at the deadline if we have a chance at a cup run.

Martin seems like like to work in pairs. We have Gomez-Gionta and Pleks-Camms. I'm wondering who we're going to pair with Eller on the 3rd line. Will it be Pouliot or Boyd? Will Pacioretty crack the lineup?

That cap space will be worth a lot more near the trade deadline.

1- There's no place for either Picard, Weber or Carle on a healthy Habs squad, so none of them will make the team unless an injury occurs, and right now, it looks like Markov will play the 1st game of the season.

2- Your argument about the PP is overblown. The Habs have Markov, Subban, Hammer and Spacek already on the PP and all better than Picard. Then, for some reason, you take out Weber and Carle out of the equation, yet both could give good competition for a PP spot where Picard is concerned. Also, Gorges has spent some time on the PP last year and became more and more comfortable.

3- OB will start the season in Montreal, there's almost no doubt about that. The simple reason is that right handed defense are much rarer than lefties. We already have Markov, Hammer, Spacek, Gorges, Gill as lefties. That doesn't leave much place for Picard. Subban, OB, Carle and Weber are all righties. Gorges can play on the right real fine. And Spacek is more used to it now.

But yeah, Picard is a Quebecer... right.
