In my research I found some interesting things. Here are the greatest goal scoring seasons of all time:

1990-91 Brett Hull 87 goals, Steve Yzerman, Cam Neely & Theoren Fleury 51 goals. Hull wins by 71%
1965-66 Bobby Hull 54 goals, Frank Mahovlich 32 goals. Hull wins by 69%
1944-45 Maurice Richard 50 goals, Herb Cain 32 goals. Richard wins by 56%
1983-84 Wayne Gretzky 87 goals, Michel Goulet 56 goals. Gretzky wins by 55%
1952-53 Gordie Howe 49 goals, Ted Lindsay 32 goals. Howe wins by 53%
1951-52 Gordie Howe 47 goals, Bill Mosienko 31 goals. Howe wins by 52%
1961-62 Bobby Hull 50 goals, Frank Mahovlich, Claude Provost & Gordie Howe 33 goals. Hull wins by 52%
1946-47 Maurice Richard 45 goals, Bobby Bauer & Roy Conacher 30 goals. Richard wins by 50%

Wow Hull was a machine in 91.

How many assists did Oates get that year? (Or were they on the same team yet?)

Oates had 90 assists in only 61 games!

That top 3 is really impressive. I don't know if the margin by which they lead means much, but there is really a great deal of separation between them and the rest. Even Gordie beats out Hull and the Rocket by quite a bit.

Interesting that Peter Bondra would be 27th. He was truly a great scorer in the 90's, but I didn't think he would rank ahead of some of the guys he beat. Shows that he really was a great scorer though.

How do you think WHA stats would have changed these? I know it's hard to compare the two leagues, but I've always been impressed with Bobby Hull. Both leagues combined he has 913 goals in 1473 games. He's already 2nd so can't really move up, but .61 GPG over his career is very impressive. Gordie as well, 975 in 2186 games including WHA.

I know you can't really compare the leagues but the numbers are interesting. Thanks for the list too.

Yes, unfortunately, players like Hull and Howe have smaller totals because they opted for the WHA. Because the WHA was somewhat weaker, to use those totals as equal to NHL totals would be wrong, IMO.

I enjoy doing the lists and discussing them. Thanks for taking the time to post a response.
