Just because i'm bored, and can't wait for the season to start:
10/3/09-12/14/09: 19 points over 30 games .633 PPG pace
5 goals, 14 assists
1/23/10-4/10/10: 38 points over 30 games 1.267 PPG Pace
18 goals, 20 assists
Had Spezza played a full season at this pace, his totals would've looked something like: 49 G, 55 A
The reason that his PPG production rose so high during the second half of the season was the fact that he was/had:
1.) Completely healthy
2.) Adjusted to his line mates (not playing along side Heatley) started taking better shots on goal
I also wanted to separate the his point production while playing on the Regin-Spezza-Alfredsson line but I couldn't remember when they started playing together
With the addition of Gonchar and the maturation of Karlsson, Spezza's production on the PP should have a nice boost too.
So in my opinion I believe that Spezza will have a 100+ point season if he remains completely healthy, but hey it's just my $0.02 on a topic that I had too much free time for so take it for what it's worth, and let me know what you guys think.
(Stats taken from espn.com from Spezza's game logs)
Almost no chance. Fewer and fewer 100 pt seasons are occurring and he's never hit the mark before. Not that he's as injury prone but guys like Forsberg and Lindros were on pace for 120-130 points a season frequently. Did they ever hit such lofty marks? No. Jason is an elite center but he's got an injury prone Milan Michalek and an aging Daniel Alfredsson as his best scoring support. This year will be like last, with Crosby and Ovechkin hitting the mark, and two or three other guys having career years. Possibly Malkin. But I doubt Jason can do it.
Yes, i think he can get 100. For me, Spezza doesn't necessary need a tremendous left wing to get 100 points. He showed it last year when he scored 23 goals in 60 games (keep in mind that his back was hurting in his first 20 games or so). I think he proved to everybody that Heatley's departure never affected his production and i tought that was great.
My prediction: If he and Alfie are both healthy, he gets 90+ points.
I doubt it, he isn't good enough on his own to increase his point production 43 points without another sniper on his wing like Heatley. Michalek doesn't have that kind of scoring ability & Regin is still too inexperienced.
No, but I'd be delighted with 90 which I do think is possible.
In fact, anything we, as a fan base, can use to shut up the irritating HFBoarders that are offering 3rd line role player with 2nd line potential + 1st 2011 + overpriced nobody (salary dump).
What about, Ryder, Halak and a 2nd?
I think 90 pts is entirely possible, he may even be on pace for over 100. But it's doubtful he plays enough games. I kind of forgot you guys added Gonchar, ooops, that kind of powerplay help can really balloon a guy's points.
