Odd that Spezza and Fisher are mentioned before Michalek. The obvious hole in the lineup is 1st/2nd line LW and Michalek would plug that up. Don't really know how well he's done in Ottawa or even if they'd be willing to trade him so soon after acquiring him though.
Spezza is a horrible idea, just brutal. That would be two center's with 7M cap hits...
Well it did work for Pittsburgh. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are a good pair too, only cheaper because of the years tacked on to the end of Zetterberg's contract. Point is, the teams that have been successful usually have a great 1-2 punch down the middle, even if they are pricey.
If not Spezza, then Kovalev or Michalek would be my targets from Ottawa. Kovalev has the leadership and experience and can still put up numbers and, but most importantly, he would be a cheap one year rental. Michalek would cost a bit more, but he would be the best fit.
I think I read somewhere that Kopitar's favorite player was Kovalev. In one of the media guides....or the thing that you buy from the kids at games? I'm in Taiwan so I don't recall what they are called.
Unrelated note: I was in China @ the World Expo, I stopped by the Slovenia booth and was wearing my Kings hat. I asked some chick who was from Slovenia working the pavilion if she was familiar with Kopitar and she was like I don't care about that crap. Then she asked some guy that was also from Slovenia and he started gushing about Kopitar. Kind of neat to hear his perspective on Kopitar, and how much Kopitar means to Slovenia.
Would rather Michalek just because we dont need a rental at left wing. We currently have 1 hole, then next year we lose Poni, then the year after that we lose Smyth. We need Michalek more than a stop gap
