You're right. You're jealousy about someone who actually has some inside sources trumps the fact that a husband might want to be near his beautiful and talented wife. If I were married to CU, I would request a trade to Nashville or LA as well. Seems like normal male behavior to me .
I have been a big fan of Carrie Underwood since she was on Idol and I can tell you that she would NOT be a factor in Fisher moving to L.A. She is rarely here in L.A., spends most of her time in Tennessee, and she is not exactly the L.A. type. She has gone on record saying did NOT like living in L.A. during Idol and that she loves Ottawa.
So I think you can pretty much throw out that reasoning. Like others have said, I don't think Fisher is a big enough upgrade over Stoll to really make this worth it.
That's what the bonus cushion is for. And even if he plays this year, I don't see him earning much of those bonuses to offset next year's salary cap.
I don't want to speak for Johnny but I believe the point he was making was in regards to the 11-12 season. Assuming Schenn makes the team this year, he will be on the second year of his entry level contract. When Ponikarovski (likely) leaves the team that season Schenn will likely be earning at least a portion of those bonuses. Remember the top five from that draft were all considered NHL ready but the Kings were deep enough at center that they had the luxury of giving Schenn time to develop. Schenn could be quite good come the 11-12 season.
Schenn is much more with his rookie bonus. It could come out to be about 3.1 million.
Hasn't DL brought up a couple of times that Schenn has a contract that is stuctured so that the bonuses are mostly unobtainable? This came out when he first brought up the idea of having Schenn break into the NHL as a forth liner. He basically said that Schenn understood that and worked with his agent and DL so that the first couple years of his contract are very difficult bonuses to acheive such as leading the team in points, assists, goals, etc. If so his cap hit would be much closer to the 875k base salary rather than his possible 3.1 mil.
Also LOL at Barry saying Doughty will still be tired from the Olympics considering by the playoffs last year he pretty clearly wasn't and was one of the Kings best players...
Lets put a lot of these bad rumors to rest with facts. The Kings are only about 5 million under the cap right now. Yes, Handzus and Williams will be UFA's...so that's another 8.5 + 5 considering the Kings don't add anyone soon or Schenn makes the Kings. That is 13 million and the Kings still have to give Doughty another 3 million more, JJ another 3-4 million more and Simmonds another 2-3 million more. When you add all that up and subtract it from that 13 there is only about 4 million left so the Kings would have to move more salary out for these high priced guys people keep mentioning. Matt Barry touched on this too.
Edit, forgot to mention Poni and his 3.2, but Schenn will probably off set that next year.
lol. If we need to give Johnson 3-4 million more then I vote trade him. 5 million for Johnson is stupid he just had his first and I don't even want to call it an offensive breakout season because 36 points is barely a break out.
Fact: Mike Fisher is Witcurrently building a house in Ottawa. Not sure if that changes your mind or not.
Without speaking directly to the topic of Mike Fisher (whom admittedly I know virtually nothing about) coming to the Kings, I've seriously lost count of the times I've heard/read "Player X just built/rented Xanadu nearby!" and then within a few months, the guy's on the other side of the continent (one big/famous example: Charles Barkley back in the early-90s, before being traded to Phoenix)...
The Flames will probably try and move Kotalik first though.
IIRC, Calgary was hoping that Kotalik would go the same route as Cristobal Huet and sign overseas. Otherwise I think they plan on burying him in the AHL. He's got a NTC and, even if he'd waive it, Calgary would have to pay to get someone to take him.
