or unless Slats has another one of his magic trades ready to go that gets us one great player for several of our mediocre players so we actually have room for all these extra forwards to play in. yeah. uuuuuuuunlikely
While I always invite competition, I'm really tired of this "throw **** at the wall and see what sticks" philosophy.
On paper, everyone loves an additional influx of talent. Sather's continual gambles on waiver wire pickups, and reclamation projects doesn't show great insight and creativity, it just further magnifies his inabilities to build a well constructed team.
Let the youngsters fight for any remaining roster spots, hell, there might not be any left already, and they don't need an additional declining veteran clogging any semblance of a roster hole.
Don't see the problem with a competitve training camp. Especially with this group of forwards. He played some great clutch hockey under Torts so is seems likely he had much to do with the invite. He's the coach, and wants to take a look. No problem with that.
If he sucks, then thanks for coming. Now hit the bricks.
and people wonder why some of us question whether there is a real plan for this organization. it sure seems like the plan is to scrape up the latest roadkill and attempt to add them to our roster ?
just because the player is desperate and/or willing to play for peanuts doesnt make him a good fit. then again, it sure seems like every (marginal and/or recently injured) forward looking for work is making a stop here with their "will skate for food" sign.
and i got crap from many here for wanting us to add a still talented, top 6 skill, pavol demitra to this roster for 1.5 mil for 1 year. i kept hearing hes too old and will block one of our young players.....
