I think most here would agree that

Staal
Rozi
and Girardi are ahead of MDZ on the depth chart

but that MDZ's upside is perhaps for the 2 spot alongside Staal

I think his upside is beyond Staal's, and I love Staal. Will he ever reach it though? Hard to tell so far. However, his offense will win us games, and I think his defense will be more than adequate

MDZ is going to be putting up a lot of points for years to come. Staal and him would make a great tandom because Staal is one of the best shut down D-Men and Del Zotto is a great offensive defenseman and only getting better. They are who the Rangers will build the D around.

not sure I see your point as Staal has yet to hit his upside

I think we agree that both players could be a top pairing tandem in NY for many years to come

I think that Staal hasn't been asked to provide offense but rather to prevent the other team from having offense, but his skill is there. His brothers talent not withstanding. Were coach to give Staal the green light I think his numbers would shoot way up but perhaps at the expense of team cohesion.

I actually think Staal is pretty close to his prime. Add 5 or so points to his offense and possibly a little more defensive capability and there you have it

With Del Zotto, it's hard to predict how good he will be right now. I can see him scoring 60-70 points one year. Will it happen? Probably not, but I'm not going to be shocked if it does
