I don't dislike Dan Ellis in any way. And some day I'm going to get over his collapse against the Sharks in his second to last appearance in a Preds game.

Dan tweeted that he was going to stir things up .... and look at the response.

He wanted to stir the pot and sit back and laugh. And it backfired on him. And now he's whining about it. ...........he got what he deserved.

I also found a fake Dan Ellis account that had been started before all this ( http://twitter.com/dellis39 ) by what looks like a Preds fan.
dellis39 was his old twitter name. He changed to 33dellis when he went to Tampa.

His post wasn't so much about financial problems as it was having 18% taken from his check for escrow and the 24% that was taken from the NHLPA during the lockout. Yeah, I'd probably be a little pissed too.

I get his point and am probably one of the few people who was not worked up about the whole thing. I work two jobs (my regular 40+ hr job and one weekend a month in reserves), probably won't see the cash he makes this year until I'm in my early 60s.

With all of that being said, I'm not so sure I would have went on as long as he did.

seems to me the couple hundred guys making under a mil per should all outvote the big bucks guys and say 'no" to the 'kicker'
And that very nearly occurred this last time.

The negotiation around how to manage escrow, the kicker, etc. will be very interesting.

I love Dan Ellis, I don't care what he tweets because if you lost 18% of your salary (regardless of your income) you would be pissed too.

Preach it Danny.

Funny how he didn't complain while he was here.... then again, no one forced him to play in this league. He shouldn't brag about his new Jag, rims and high dollar toys. Then maybe that 18% wouldn't make that big of a difference. That's where he screwed the pooch.

While that is true, it is still 18% salary. I would be pissed too if we traded places. Money is serious business, regardless of how much you make.

He's the one who agreed to a paycut in salary by going to Tampa.

I deleted my Twitter account before all this started, I guess, but after reading the tweets, I don't hate him but I do take issue with what he's said. No, I wouldn't want 18% of my pay taken but I also don't/wouldn't want to hear all about his supposed money troubles when I gladly sacrifice quite a bit to be able to go watch him and other millionaires play a game. Also, while I agree that money is money, it would take me 55+ years at my current pay to hit what he makes in one year... I have a hard time brushing off the comments when I'm sure his new car cost almost as much as I just spent on my first home.

Then again, I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't read it on here so I'm not going to let it phase me too much... I have a bigger issue with Hamhuis' smug ass.

The reason most of the response was from Preds fans was because since he started tweeting, Preds fans are the only ones who would care what he has to say.

We were his only followers

He'll come back. For some people it's like crack. As much as he was tweeting he won't be able to stay away.

as an oiler fan(I come in peace) I will be more practival about the comments

1) They were dumb comments
2) Most hockey players--no matter how many degrees they have live in a different world and unless you make 500k a year or more you can not relate to even the poorest hockey player
3)Next time you get paid--cash your cheque and then give you boss back 18%--how would you react?

ellis decided to whine about how of his 1.5mill us contract he had to give back $270k--so it comes down to a little perspective

he was an idiot and shows how out of touch SOME players are with the world that goes on around them

I'm wondering if it was forced on him or just another way to get attention. It does appear he's tucking tail and running. Hope it isn't permanent.

Hmm, maybe if he wasn't missing that 500K more he made last year he wouldn't be as vocal about worrying about money. I guess living within your means is a foreign concept to some.
