Regehr addresses trade rumours, says he wants to stay

Quote:
Has he been approached by management to waive his no-movement clause?

“I'm not going to get into that,” he said. “That's just part of sports. That's the way it is.”

But does he want to leave?

“I would like to win here in Calgary,” he said. “That's my first option. That always has been. I've made that fairly clear not only with talking about it, but also with the actions that I've done. Things like re-signing here in Calgary to an extension at the time and not going to the open market.”

Calgary Herald.

yeah that's not the greatest news. Hopefully Regehr is professional enough to understand that it's just business and he still plays to expectations.

Based on what some credible insiders tweeted during July 1st I would say a Savard for Regehr trade was agreed to but the players wouldn't go for it.

I would say Daryl had a Tanguay/Savard/Iginla 1st line envisioned but had to settle for bringing Jokinen back. Maybe he's not as crazy as the experts claim.

Sounds more like the teams agreed and Regehr nixed it before Savard was even asked to waive his

It sure does. I'm happy he said no and is staying.

Allegedly... if so then Sutter likely has some issues with Reggie.

Dude what else would you expect? : Your post came across like you are kind of lecturing Regehr as a nagging teacher. He earned the NMC and it is up to him should he want to waive it... get over it.

what? how does that even have anything to do with that... if anything it likely means anything its that Sutter got an offer to make the team better and approached Regehr about accepting the deal in order to make the team better

Oh I know but I was responding to a post by you where you said he was likely approached by Sutter and Regehr said no. That would piss Sutter off n'est pas? Even more so if there was a real solid offer to make the team better conditional on him waiving his NMC. That is how is has something to do with that.

Sutter understands the business and respects the players. If the player doesn't want to waive then Sutter needs to deal with it, and he will. The two have now each other for 10 years and should have a good relationship.

Oh I know... and Sutter has to expect some push back from at least one of the NTC/NMC's he has handed out to sign core players. That said maybe pissed is the wrong word.... maybe frustrated, dissapointed, whatever. I am sure you can get what I am saying.

That is IF in fact the speculation of the fact is indeed what happened earlier this summer.

I do get what your saying now. But pissed is the wrong word for sure.

BTW, why don't you quote people like everyone else?

I did not realize I have to quote people every time. I often do but when I feel like it is aimed at one particular post..... If I must explain this time I am replying to a general trend in the thread.

What the hell are you talking about?

I'm saying that if Reg was approached, which it seems like he was, then hopefully it doesn't deter him from wanting to play for the team. There would be nothing worse then having one of our better d-men not motivated. I assume most are professional enough to not let this get to them, and they present themselves that way in the media for obvious reasons. But we'll never know what is going on in a players mind during the season. Hopefully its positive.

Rumours I've heard is that it was the Savard / Regehr deal, which was okayed by Regehr but nixed by Savard.

I wouldn't doubt it. All I've heard all off-season is that if Savard did waive, it would only be for Toronto or Ottawa.

I bolded the part about you hope Regehr can be professional... of course he is professional.

Thats great that you and I both know that Regehr is a professional hockey player

But that doesn't change how he personally feels about playing for the team and for D.Sutter. Once the season gets underway guess we'll see what he does. Though Regehr doesn't strike me as the type of guy to whine and feel sorry for himself. He'll probably go out there and do the best he can.

All I meant by my original post was that this is not the best news to hear. Having a player asked to be moved and then he winds up staying, not a great scenario.

Sounds like to me that Regehr ok'd some sort of move or perhaps gave Sutter a short list.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ok'd a deal to Boston, but Savard wasn't ok with it.
