I would add Chris Phillips to the list. He's a steady guy. Christian Erhoff may be of interest if Markov moves on. Bieska has always seemed like a risk as a no 2 d man but he has the tools to be useful.

Perhaps there are some well paid d man on teams looking to shed salary that may become an option. As long as they're not Brian Campbell.

Has anyone seen much of Eric Brewer?

I can see both Gill and Hamrlik re-signing, especially if Weber, Carle and I guess even O'Byrne don't take big steps forward.
We'll quite probably re-sign Markov and Spacek will be one year removed, from moving on. We'll need a second pairing LD.

Chara, Kaberle, Ehrhoff, Bieska, Philips and Pitkanen should be of interest.

Kaberle or Ehrhoff would look pretty good on the second pairing.

Or Hammer with a big paycut.

I think Spacek or Gorges could be that 2nd pairing LD and isn't Bieks a RD ?

Anyway, I'd be more looking to find a good Stay-at-home RD to play with markov

Markov- UFA
Gorges-Subban
Spacek-O'byrne

I think Gill will call it a quit.

I wouldn't mind re-signing Hamrlik for a lower salary.

We will certainly have to do a bold move though. Gill/Hamrlik = Two major Dmen. Just remember Gill in playoffs... Rookies are not ready.

All top/experienced Dmen will be under contract...

It would be nice if Gauthier makes a move this season by getting a young/mid-career dmen to be on top 4.

Priority

It has been discussed in other threads that the priority was to sign a large size winger.

But Gill / Hamerlik departure next year is serious. We would need to move quickly on a new Dman or 2.

As for the defence

I think we'll sign at least one big name D. There will be a hole after all.

We have no up and coming defencemen anyway. Please stop including Weber and Carle. They are not NHL material. Weber will bolt for Europe and Carle will be traded in a minor deal at some point this season. Besides, He's too injury prone anyway.
