Here is something that I found funny. I have heard not a single thing about this deal which means it actually must be possible. The last rumors had us looking pretty seriously at one of the Sens and this one has us back to Savard.

I had heard like everyone else that the Sens thing wasn't likely so now is it even possible that we are back to going after Savard the unmovable?

Hey, Portland Oregon is still here. Too bad no winterhawk games tonight. Oh well, tomorrow it is off to the box that the t-birds call home. anyone in the Seattle area? Spokane is now on the schedule too if we have any Chief fans let me know.

Ahh the road.

Was Just listening to the "hockeywood insider" the guy from TFP said that Doughty negotiations are on-going and that "they are on the same level" (referring to DL and Drew) and that he will get Keith money.

What is it exactly you do? Is your job tied to the CHL?

As for Savard, I was initially against it, but the idea's growing on me. Essentially a Handzus type contract for a guy of similar age but much higher offensive ability. The burden is obviously the length but at this point in time a 7 year deal isn't much different than a 5 year deal in my mind as we have no idea what the salary situation will be in 6-7 years and the contract may prove to be more of a burden in the near future (years 2-5) than towards the end (6-7).

I would guess the reason we haven't seen a trade yet (although at this point, I'm skeptical there will be one at all) is that Lombardi wants to get Doughty's extension done first and see what he's got to work with. If the rumored Keith-like contract is realized and Doughty makes 5-6 million long term, that frees up the cap structure a lot. That's when we could see a Savard-type trade.

Teams are going to have to comply with the salary cap or face the consequences of stiff penalties. Players will become available as we get closer to opening night. No need for Lombardi to make any panic moves quite yet.

I'd be ecstatic if that happened but I don't see ut unless it's like a 20 year deal. The reason Keith's deal is relatively cheap is that it gradually drops in value down over 13 years to $1.5M by the time Keith is like 40. In 13 years Doughty will only be 33 and still command top dollars.

We'll see though.

They can just reverse the contract, Doughty's salary will start low and end high. Frolov had the same structure, he was making $4 million last year with a $2.9 cap hit.

I don't think it's quite that easy. I mean look at Keith's salary:

$8,000,000
$8,000,000
$8,000,000
$8,000,000
$7,650,000
$7,600,000
$7,500,000
$6,000,000
$5,000,000
$4,500,000
$3,500,000
$2,650,000
$2,100,000
$1,500,000

Those final four years are just so low. The only way it happens is if Doughty takes a serious discount.

I don't know why but I think Drew might be one of the few guys who would, or maybe that's just what I see through my purple glasses.

Well the only reports I saw that said that were from unreliable sources. CBGC and Hockey24Hours. As always, wait until you hear it from Rich.

I don't know how many people have watch Savard play at length, but he could be (arguably) the best passer in the game. He's extremely creative and makes some very difficult passes look easy. The only problem is, on the PP, he plays the same half wall as Kopitar, so his time may impose on Kopi's. People can argue that Thornton is the best passer in the league, but watch Savard make plays that nobody else can.

The main point is, if he stays healthy and if you put him with Brown, Brownie will get 30 goals no question. Look what Savard has done with Ryder, Kovalchuk, etc.

I don't think he's available like they see he is specifically because Chiarelli just came out and said they won't deal him, but for cap reasons, they are going to have to make a move soon.

Didn't Chiarelli just come out and say that Savard was not going to be traded? With all trade rumors, I like to apply logic. Does this pass the smell test? I don't think so.

Bruins GM assures Marc Savard he won't be traded
Quote:
Apparently unsatisfied with the offers he received for Marc Savard, Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli on Friday said he won't be trading the high-priced center.

"We told Marc we are not moving him and he is part of the organization," Chiarelli told ESPNBoston.com.

Chiarelli acknowledged fielding proposals for Savard, who is one of the league's top playmakers. Chiarelli broke from his usual policy of not discussing trade rumors, saying he was addressing the Savard talk because it became public.

I think the Bruins will still need to make a move eventually.

If Seguin comes in and kills it, he will have to deal Savard...they have Bergeron, Savard, Kreji already....That's 5 centers not including a checking center or the fact Horton can play center too.

I think Doughty's contract will be more similar to what Toews and Kane got.

CBGB is a credible source. The admins of this board have determined he is credible. A rumor thread is where these postings go as we all know. Rumors are supposed to be posted in a rumor thread. I understand some of you may have concerns and questions about his credibility, but personal attacks will not be allowed. It is still at our discretion what is and what isn't allowed, but this is a rumor thread. It goes without saying that rumors are, well, rumors.

If you have a problem with all that, contact one of us Kings mods through a PM. I reiterate, through PM. Anyway, we've gone way off topic here. Back to rumor posting.
