There are teams we hate. There are players we hate. What about players that we like/love or even have a tremendous amount of respect for even if they play for a team that we don't particularly care for.
Nicklas Lidstrom is a guy that falls into this category for me. One of the greatest to ever play the game. A marvel at what he does on the ice. Very respectful guy to the game of hockey. Plays for the hated rival Wings but I can't help but respect and admire the guy for what he's brought to the game of hockey for years.
Are there players that others around here have that same feeling for on other teams? Just curious who people enjoy watching on other teams, even if it's our rivals.
Duncan Keith would be another guy I like watching.
I used to play goalie, so I'm especially partial to them. I love watching Henrik Lundqvist. He doesn't get the credit he deserves but he is the reason the Rangers aren't in the basement of the East. He consistently stands on his head to give them wins they don't even close to deserve.
I love the way Ovie plays the game. He brings so much excitement and intensity. Just my $0.02

Ryan Suter is most of the reason why I hang out here, so... yeah.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!
scott stevens is my all time favorite, chris pronger next and i really like weber, but i need to see him do what stevens and pronger did before putting his jersey up in my hockey hall of fame in my hockey room
Lidstrom is a good pick. Not too many current NHL players that I admire outside of the Preds and Flyers. But many who I will probably look back after their playing days with a more positive opinion. You see guys torch your team all the time and hate them for it, then when their gone you miss watching their skill. Luc Robitaille, Tony Amonte, Jaromir Jagr, Brian Leetch, Dominik Hasek, etc... one guy I never liked and never will is Brett Hull.
I guess currently I've always liked Eric Staal and Martin Brodeur... and it probably seems strange to most people yet for some reason I really like Ruslan Fedotenko and Scott Hannan.
Funny story about Lidstrom which is why I started this thread. As some of you may have noticed over the years, a buddy of mine and I have these Red Wings Sucks t-shirts and we would wear them to games. One night we went down to the glass to watch warm ups. This time however we were watching the Red Wings warm up. We got up right on the glass and while they were doing their thing, Lidstrom skates by. He sees us wearing the t-shirts, does a double take and then grins at me and my buddy. We then grin back at him, give him a head nod and he does the same.
To me, that was one of the best moments I've ever had at the arena. A player who has a sense of humor and shared that with us. He laughed, we laughed and in doing so, I gained that much more respect for him than I already had. If I remember correctly, Chelios saw us and was not the least bit amused....lol. I will say this though about Chelios, I watched him for years when he played for Montreal, as I was a Habs fan, and he was one heck of a player back then so I always had a bit of a soft spot for him even when others would yell he was a sissy. Any guy that can play to 48 in this league is by no means a sissy in my book. Just my humble opinion.
Martin Brodeur. I have a lot of respect for him. How many Cups do the Devils win without him?
Chelios has no sense of humor. A guy in Milwaukee yelled at him about leaving his walker on the bench last season. I thought he was going to climb the glass and go after him. Mostly he received a warm reception as a former Badgers player, even though he was playing for the Chicago Wolves. He was like another coach on the ice.
always admired steve yzerman. a constant professional, great leader, great player.
forsberg and sakic as well..but they were on the team i rooted for until about 6-7 years ago, so that is kind of a homer pick i guess.
current players is tough. ovechkin is jsut amazing, really that whole team is as far as how quick they get their shots off, they can shoot form any position. its amazing to me.
i know its not abouthated players, ,but when i lived in phoenix i went to a game against maybe the blues, and pronger was getting bood for something, and he flipped all the fans off...sorry but i will always hate him for that
Since I also love the Pens, I love watching all the Pens.
I also like watching Jack Johnson and Drew Doughty play. Last season after the Olympics the Kings came to town and I was down by the Kings side and one time when Johnson came by we started USA USA and he smiled and waved.
Love guys like Dustin Brown, Rick Nash, Bobby Ryan, and obviously Ovi. Guys who can light the lamp but have no problem laying guys out with a clean check. Lots of respect for those type of players.
Since I'm not usually here, Suter and Erat are guys a love watching from the preds.
Since I also love the Pens, I love watching all the Pens.
And I still like to watch Hartnell.
Wow! A Pens fan liking a Flyer?!?! I've seen it all now...
I like watching teams rather than players, but some current guys I'll admit watching frequently are Ales Hemsky, Shane Doan, Ryan Kesler, Brendan Morrow, Nik Lidstrom, Henrik Lundqvist, Marty Brodeur, Tuukka Rask, Daniel Alfredsson, Cal Clutterbuck, Tobias Enstrom, and Cam Ward among others...
Geez, almost forgot a few of my favorites out West in Patrick Marleau, Joe Pavelski, and Paul Statsny...too many to count!
And Daniel Sedin passes to his brother Henrik.
Back to Daniel.
Henrik.
Shoot and goalie blocks it aside.
Recovered by Henrik.

Back to Salo.
To Henrik.
