Ryan Johansen

Tell me about this guy.
Should you be concerned about him after all he's only had one good year of putting up solid numbers and came out of nowhere in the draft.
Whats his NHL comparable? Points he'll get in his prime? Think he will reach 1st line potential?

He has Spezza like potential, he was the right pick for the Blue Jackets.

As the second poster said, he has Jason Spezza-type potential, however, he's at least two years removed from being an NHLer, in my opinion.

Good size at 6'3" - but a bit lanky and needs to fill in. Very underrated skater, tremendous playmaker and underrated two-way play. Would like to see him play a little tougher and use his size a little more, but that's simply not in his game right now.

Look for him to not only contend for the WHL scoring title, but maybe the CHL scoring title - especially if El Nino comes back to Portland this year.

At the beginning of the year people kept saying that Nino was making Johansen better. Now I'm starting to think its the other way around...

I agree (or at least think that their partnership was mutually beneficial). In reality, nobody has any way of knowing unless they've watched a lot of Winterhawks games last year.

A good article:

They made each other better. Their games were perfect for each other.

I saw alot of Winterhawks games last year, and they fed off of each other. They both created room for each other, they played off each other's skill, and they both finished.

Great tandem for the Hawks. Brad Ross was underrated on that line, as well. Good pick by Burke and the Leafs.

I watched quite a few hawks games last season and Brad Ross was the glue on that line. Things really started skyrocketing for Johansen while nino was at WJC. Oliver Gabriel played well on that line and put up some pretty good numbers in Nino's place and Johansen I believe scored at a higher rate than before.

Shows that:

-Johansen can play without nino
-Brad Ross and what he does without the puck is underrated
-Johansen can step it up when called upon. Add to that the beast he was in the playoffs (played with a physical edge we didn't see in the regular season) and you've got yourself a skilled player who raises his game under stress.

Ryan Johansen gets very little love and his skill set plus size makes him a very deadly player to think about in the future. The size package of a power forward, the hands of spezza and the ability to raise his game when its needed like that of a playoff beast.... Many said he draws comparisons to Getzlaf and lets put it this way, if he's nearly 3/4 the player getzlaf is then CBJ has one hell of a deadly player to play along side Mr. Nash.

I think he's a superior talent to most in this draft and the lack of people giving him props is pathetic.. He's gonna be a quality one as long as they dont rush him..

That's what I keep trying to tell the rest of the CBJ fans. Some of them are bitter that they didn't get their Brandon Gormley, but I can't stress enough how good this kid actually is. Give him 2 years to be NHL ready and watch him and Rick Nash rip it up.

He's good, I like him, but he isnt THAT good.

There were better players that CBJ couldve taken at 4.

I'm a cbj fan and I couldn't be happier with the pick. He's a lanky, 6'2 center with great hands, feet and vision who played his most physical hockey when his team needed him most... was the most productive player in the WHL playoffs up until his team was eliminated.. has a top-level highlight reel... should level out at about 210 lbs... the only thing going against him is lack of experience.

Well there were better players, but their need for a legitimate center was the reason they chose Johansen.

By the same token, David Legwand only had one good year in juniors.

Until a sizable study is undertaken, number of good years in juniors cannot be looked to as being in any way indicative of a player's likelihood of future success.

terrible pick by CBJ. Gormley, Fowler, Connolly, Skinner, Burmistrov, Granlund all would have been better picks.

He will not contend for the OHL scoring title. Skinner has that virtually locked up

I mean, Gormley or Fowler would have helped get that defense up to par but getting Johansen has game changing potential.

Really? Such as who? Because last I knew you cannot judge the draft after just an offseason.. If there were, i think the CBJ would have drafted them.. So lets wait a season and see how players progress before we go making a snap assessment like that.

Is this a serious post?

LOL, and like Z40 below me said, he doesn't even play in the OHL.
