2nd Line RW to Buffalo

I know we are probably done with trading and FAs and that we won't take on anymore cap, i hope that it's still okay if i make this thread.

Which 2nd Line RW might be a good fit for the Sabres? We'll likely start the season with Hecht-Connolly-Pominville as our 1a and Vanek-Roy-x as our 1b/2nd. The x will likely be Stafford or Ennis, but another addition for this position would be great. Ennis would get some time to mature while playing with guys like Grier and contract-year Stafford will finally feel some fire under his ass. So basically, i'm looking for a 2nd line RW who could be bumped to the 3rd, if Ennis or Stafford outperform him (want a legit 2nd liner though).

Who would you suggest? I think we need a big body who can win battles along the boards with some grit and speed. He will play with very skilled players so i don't think he needs too much finesse, i'm mainly looking for a glue-guy like Hecht is on our other top-line. Zubrus comes to mind, although i don't know if his scoring is good enough for our 2nd...

Appreciate your suggestions

Zubrus would be exactly what you're looking for, actually. He doesn't score that many goals, but he creates tons of space for his linemates and is a monster along the boards. He was juggled between our 1st and 3rd lines, and played mostly RW and C for us. Only problem is the bolded in your post..

You're about to have 572 Sabres fans sprint in here and tell you how perfect Clowe would be for the Sabres. And he would be, so I'll be the first. The topic has been talked about at length on these boards. I'd love to see such a trade, but I don't see DW being too interested in trading him for the defensive players the Sabres would be willing to move. If Butler and/or Sekera play well this year, I could see something going down next offseason, but unlikely for this season.

As for Buffalo's 2nd line RW--given that Hecht-Connolly-Pominville is likely to remain a line--it will probably be Vanek-Roy-Stafford OR Ennis-Roy-Vanek.

I always liked him, but i haven't really watched him lately. Why does he appear in so many trade proposals, is it his contract, or is San Josť expecting an awesome return for him?

Because as Zip said, for an uninformed poster like i am, he looks like a perfect fit. Zubrus would be good as well, but Clowe just seems perfect.

Why again did the Sabres part ways with Steve Bernier?

Lol... I remember all the talk here for years that he'd be a 30+ goal powerforward. Maybe he'll break out one year.

take out the 1st, dont be silly. You;'re not getting a 1st for a 1 yr rental of a 35 yr old forward.

Butler for Langenbrunner is almost overpayment alone.

We'll give you Scott Hartnell, and we'll only ask for Miller in return.

I know Little struggled last yr(13 goals),but he's only two yrs removed from his 31 goal season and he's signed to a very reasonable 3 yr deal.

I'd be surprised if the Thrashers gave up on him.

I would too - especially with someone like Dudley that knows talent and builds with youth.

However, if Atlanta wants to deal Little, I'd be more than happy to see Sabres pick him up.

Ales Kotalik for a 4th/5th? (I say this actually hoping that Kotalik stays a Flame, I love what he brings to the table - but knowing that we need to shed about 3 million dollars).

In all seriousness, would you (buffalo) take him in December when he's only owed another 2.5 mil if he's playing anywhere close to his 2008-2009 performance? I don't love the idea of trading him to a divisional rival, but we may need to trade him somewhere. I know you're up against your internal budget but some early success (or disappointment actually) can change that budget.
