Yeah, my biggest worry is still getting in, we're only a game up after all.

As long as we keep winning series we're supposed to, it might depend on the two Braves series. And in two short 3 game series with our top 3 going, I think it will come down to the fact that we're a good team at home and on the road, whereas the Braves can only say half as much.

Sick. Did you pay for these or have a hookup?

Adam Dunn puts the Nationals up 2-0 against Atlanta.

If anyone cares, the tentative 2011 master schedule was released earlier.

For what it's worth they didn't give out the 2008 WS rings until the 2nd or 3rd game. Opening night they raised the banner.

Cole power -- stickin' it to the man.

edit: Hamels with 2.6 times more strikeouts in 6.2 than the Braves had hits through nine tonight. *****in'.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that letting Cole throw 127 pitches was not a good idea.

I was thinking that was the case as I was posting my comment. Ah well it will be one big weekend party!

I think he'll be fine. He had to battle a little bit of everything at some point, but I don't see it costing too much at this point. A bump in the road next time out might even make him go harder into and through the playoffs.

I'll never understand stealing a base with Howard at the plate. All it does it take the bat out of his hands with an intentional walk.

ETA: second time tonight, the first was a double steal with Shane and Polly.

Great, gutsy win. Cole Hamels is back and better than ever. Of course, scoring 10 runs for Hamels last time out was a total aberration and tonight the boys were back to giving him the usual meager run support. Don't look now, but we have the fourth best record in baseball.

Whoa, did anyone else just see that absolute missile from Greg Golson (former Phillies prospect) to nail Carl Crawford at 3rd base to end the Yanks/Rays game tonight? Holy ****!

I didn't see it, but he was always "toolsy." I wouldn't be surprised if he put any of it together once in a while.

Yea man, he threw a seed. Crawford being one of the fastest guys in the league, he's probably scoring on a 2 out single from second since he'll be off and running, is tagging on that flyball the smartest thing to do??

He'll be okay. He actually wanted to stay in, rather than last year where he'd be looking at the scoreboard for his pitchcount, and then glancing into the dugout waiting for someone to take him out. Also, he gets an extra off day this time through the rotation, so he can take another day to simply rest before he starts his normal regiment.

Well in that situation it was to get a runner into scoring position. Theoretically you'll take a good hitter like Werth with a runner in scoring position over another good hitter with a runner on first. However, as it's widely known, Werth is terrible 2 outs RISP this year, and it's September time for Howard.

Yeah, that was some freakin throw. I was rootin' for the Rays in that one, too, but I guess a series split gets us closer to MLB's best record, for kicks.

On a ball to right field with his speed, yeah, well worth what he thought was very minimal risk. You want to be able to score on a wild pitch or a dribbling infield single (like Uggla's tonight).

That's my main point, it's Howard. Anybody else I don't care. Plus "J-Dub" is currently in a 1-43 stretch with RISP. 1-43!!!! Let Howard swing!

Good point about Crawford getting to third score on a wild pitch or dribbler. But with two outs he's running full speed from 2nd he's scoring, I'd rather take the chance at the plate than get thrown out at 3rd on a sac fly. That's why I'm not a baseball manager.

Yes, that'd normally be what you do, but he was thinking there was absolutely no chance in the world that Golson throws a one hopper across the field like that. That was not a throw I can see Golson replicating even in warm-ups.

Though I feel obligated to mention that although it looked awesome and ended the game, it was completely stupid to attempt the throw like that. If that bounces away or is at all off line, Crawford does score easily, and the save is blown. In that situation you just throw it to the cutoff man. Big risk, but in this case it paid off.

I was just meandering over some stats, I think it is really really realistic that Halladay can win the Cy Young.

Tied for 1st in NL for wins
2.44 ERA, 3rd to only Josh Johnson and Mat Latos (neither of which I can see winning it given their W-L record, a stat which voters seem to love)
201 Ks, 2nd in NL to Tim Lincecum (tied with Hamels lollllllll)
8 complete games, 1st in ML
3 shutouts, 1st in NL

The only competition I see would be Wainwright. I think Jimenez has just had too bad of a 2nd half.
