Great signing IMO. I was expecting somewhere in the neighborhood of 5/25 for a 4.5-5 mil hit. He bought some UFA years and we have a #1 A-level top defenseman signed to 2015 with a hit under 4. IF he could only avoid the burning sensation of overpaying on the open market for players this team might be in decent shape.
Agreed. What's important now is to make sure he's able to handle the Callahan contract intelligently next summer.

Who would've thunk that Marc Staal signing would crash the boards?

GREAT effin' deal! All along I was thinking $3.5MM per year for a 2-3 year deal, which would leave Marc as an RFA at the end. Instead, it's less than $4MM for 5 years, including an UFA year? Awesome, awesome job.

Why the hell can't he do this well with his UFA contracts?

2 other pluses.

1. Staal is in camp.
2. Redden closer to going bye-bye.

Awesome job here by Sather.

5 years for a very, VERY reasonable cap hit!

I'm very curious to see what the impressions are of Redden's camp performance.

I think this will be the most intense Rangers training camp any one can remember.

Quick question though, it was rumored Staal was offered 6 years 27 mill (4.5 per). That's got to be a 100% bs rumor now that we see this deal. Because the difference in year 6 is about 7 million being that he got 5 yr 20 mill. Staal would've accepted 6 yr 27 mill. if it was indeed offered. So that was a bs rumor

He's done... His mental game is down every bit as much as his physical game... No matter how hard he tries in camp, he just doesn't have it upstairs anymore... As Torts said, he does everything slow and his game is predictable.... Adios!

I was expecting this deal to be closer to $4.5 million/year the way talks dragged on. To me this is a great deal. I know this will look even better down the road in later years, but this is still great right now.

Hoping Callahan and Dubinsky stay under 3M. Anisimov should see a contract similar to Dubi's current contract. Just a tad less, unless he has a monster year. The trio shouldn't cost more than 7.5M~ combined.

I think both Callahan and Anisimov signings will go down smoothly. Little weary about Dubi though. If he plays hardball again I think he's done as a NYR.

I think Both Cally and Dubi will be locked up on 3 an d4 year deals but...Anisimov IMO is the trade piece here. Just a hunch, but I think he will be the guy to get moved to acquire a center for the top line.

yea go figure eh. they are 4 million over the cap now.........doesnt Redden basically have to go?.......unless they move White, Gilroy, Zuccarello to Hartford

Wade should just go overseas like Huet and save himself the humiliation of going to the AHL
