Lisin invited to Thrashers Camp

Quote:
Thrashers have invited former Ranger Envers Lisin to training camp on a tryout basis. He skated this morning.
-BenThrashers on Twitter

I figured that given the popularity of the player in question this might want its own thread. If not, mods please merge into the general NHL thread.

They can have him. I wish he could use that speed and skill to good use.

I know we're going to get a slew of tools/no toolbox comments, but I really believe his major problem is his hands - more often than not, he'd go to make a good move and he'd lose the puck or he'd get into good position, rip a shot... and have it sail 3 feet wide.

I'm not claiming that his hockey IQ is off the charts, but I really think his failures have more to do with the fact that he was about as bad at controling the puck as he was good at skating.

In a way he reminds me of Zherdev. All the skill in the world but just can't seem to put it all together.

Yeah, except Z can still score ~60 pts at the end of a season.

Lisin seems to lose his footing a bunch, as well. *shrug* whatever. best of luck to the guy.

Agreed. I don't really see him as a player in the Zherdev/Kovalev mold at all. Those guys, for all their other faults, can stickhandle in a phone booth. The puck does nothing but jump and bounce around for Lisin, he can't handle it at the speed he skates at. I also don't think his passing or his shooting is anything special. He's just fast.

Enver Lisin may be the single stupidest hockey player I have ever seen in my life. Talent is unquestionable, effort is always there, but the head...its just...empty.

I agree. He definitely is far from a smart hockey player, but even if he had a hockey brain I still don't think he would be that good. He's essentially Rico Fata 2.0. Some good individual abilities but overall not that good of a hockey player.

If he could learn to draw more penalties and work on his shootout skills, I think he could definitely be an excellent utility player for an NHL team. Other than that, I feel that Atlanta may be his last stop in the NHL if he can't find a niche.

Yeah, I really have never seen a stupider player before. I mean, Rico Fata was pretty stupid and all, but he could at least apply himself on occasion and even learned to play a bit of defense after he fizzled out.

Lisin? Dumber than a rock. I don't even feel bad for calling him a moron. He might not even know what that word means.

I honestly have no memory of any single play Lisin made last year with the Rangers. Nothing stands out. No hockey sense in this player. At least Dawes has some hockey smarts.

This is the only thing I remember him doing, and it was preseason:

I was a huge Lisin supporter, I really liked the kid coming in and wanted him to do well here. I seriously doubt he makes an impact in Atlanta, but stranger things have happened.

Lisin was good in situations where he could get by purely on talent

like a solo rush after picking up a turn over

or coming in on a defender and getting off a solid shot from the high circle area

but when he had to be part of a developing play, or read what his teammates were doing, all bets were off

Z is already causing angst for Philly fans as he refused to speak with reporters. Somehow I just don't see this as a marriage made in heaven.

Atlanta hoping he can replace Afinogenov maybe? Good luck Lisin you were an exciting player to watch when you got on the ice.
