Zuccarello-Aasen will probably make it. If he shows the skills, playmaking, and smarts he is known for, he's going to make it.
And they're definitely going to want to carry a 7th defenseman this year.
So at least one of Semenov, Eminger, Exelby should make it.
And I wouldn't count White and Fedotenko out. If they carry a 7th defenseman they can still carry at least two extra forwards. I doubt they'll carry Kennedy to sit in the press box, they'll want him to play somewhere.
And they expect McDonagh to possibly make the roster, and not in Gilroy's place, either. Regardless of what some fans say or think of him, the Rangers still think highly of Gilroy. I think Gilroy and Redden will at least get the chance to start the season in New York.
Never thought he'd miss one day of camp and the deal is excellent this year, next year, and every year. Defensively he's exactly what this team needs with the toughness and firepower in our division. Offensively I only see him getting better.
To the two or three guys actually complaining about the years you need to do a much better job of putting things in perspective.
Sidney crosby got 5 years.
Malkin got 5 years.
Bobby ryan just got 5 years.
"Mark my words" precursor to an "I told you so" 5 YEARS down the line from now? It's a little problem on the boards.
The guy who warned "B4 i get flamed" your comment was just discussion and was more reasonable.
Hate to sound so aggressive and I'm not aiming the following at the person in this thread, I'm not but the reason people might flame you is because of the following:
The inclination is less about being a fan with a lot of people on these boards and leans towards ego boosting a bit. Not every1 but it's obvious with a few. It's especially hard not to notice some of the vets(not naming names) on this board who have such huge ego's. I think it filters down unfortunately to level headed fans just looking to make a solid point. It creates a hostile environment and it has guys ready to jump down each other's throats usually over stupid sh**. Which I believe what the guy on this thread was trying to do was make a good point about wishful thinking. B/c it really would be awesome to hit him up for 10 years and make him a Ranger for life so I do get the point the guy is trying to make even though yes the comment is severely misplaced and a bit of a buzzkill. As for vets on the board not all are negative. ,Guys like Edge are fantastic and I love reading whenever the guy posts, same for other vets but others are just flat out looking to boost their own self importance and it's like Dude we're on a hockey board, you're not EJ.
I'm about to go on a tangent so I'll stop there. Point is I get why your worried about being flamed and I get why the other guy is being such a debbie downer with his comment.
Perfect contract in my eyes for what Staal is, for what the market is, for what similar players are getting, for the team needs. You put all of that stuff together and this is a PERFECT contract. Could not have asked for more.
Buuuut without the NTC being absent we have to worry about that idiot Sather trading him for Ribeiro or something (haha kidding even Sather isn't that stupid)
It's a perfect contract. if the organization does right by him and by its other players we'll keep him. 10 years for a RFA nowadays is flat out unrealistic. This is literally the best you could hope for with a RFA of this caliber. So glad this got done. One of the best off seasons we've had in a while in my eyes at least. Very bright future.
haha... we won't talk about him. I agree mildly with Mutts, I think he's a bit overrated at the moment (that's irrelevant), but this is a great deal for a young Dman like Staal. And considering he is your best Dman, its completely worth it. He'll be 28, I believe, when this is over. Considering I expected it to be about $4.5m, i think having it a hair under 4 is a great deal for your team.
under $4M them some great terms. we were all talking about $4.5M good job Slats. again showing his ability to sign RFAs. a reason why we must home-grow our talent. Sather doesn't know how to control himself with UFAs although he was able take advantage with the Frolov signing
Glad to have Staal locked up. Would have loved to have eaten up a few more UFA years but considering the cost to buy that 1 UFA year was $5,450,000 I can see why they stopped at 5 years. Considering how important Staal is to our team, to get him for under 4mill a year for the next 5 years is really a good deal.
