Rookie Camp Primer - A Quick Look at the Prospects in Camp

Quote:
The wait is over! The first skate of the 2010 Nashville Predators Training Camp schedule has finally arrived! Yes, it's only rookie camp and the veterans don't start until Saturday, but after the break we provide you with a crash course on everything you need to know about the roster for rookie camp and look to give you a reason to head on down to Centennial Sportsplex this afternoon.

In their only appearance in Nashville before heading to Sunrise, FL to take on the Florida Panthers prospects in a pair of rookie camp exhibition games Wednesday and Thursday, Milwaukee Admirals Head Coach Lane Lambert, Milwaukee assistant coach Ian Herbers, player development coach Martin Gelinas, and Predators goaltending coach Mitch Korn will run the 2 goalies, 6 defensemen, and 10 forwards in camp through a practice starting at 1 PM CST to get the team ready.

I would be stunned if there was any coverage in audio or video format. I really wish we'd take part in one of the "major" prospect tournaments like Traverse City..starting this year, there was quite a bit of video coverage.

training camp invitees

Do you guys think that we will invite anyone to come tryout with us? Or better question, is there anyone that you would "like" to see get a tryout with us?

Not talking about guys that have never played a game in NHL.

Any chance we give Comrie an invite?

I bet the Penguins would have a serious problem with that.

Who that's out there right now do you think is any better than what we already have on our roster? It's unlikely we invite anyone, for that simple fact...we've got guys one one-way contracts that might *not* make the team.

I would love to see Poile jump the shark by inviting a vet goalie but I think he SIGNED the guys he would have invited for camp.

Aaron Johnson and Jamie Lundmark.

My question is how much room is left for a trade at the deadline? Poile almost always has a million left over for a deal. What if the ceiling is the mid-cap?

I think, if anything, our having so many signed goaltenders is the reason that we'll stay in house for a goaltender. If we signed a veteran, we'd pretty much have to trade one of them for anything we could get, if anything. Say Lindback can't cut it as backup...we already have Pickard and Dekanich in Milwaukee, Smith in the ECHL...what do you do? We're handcuffed by all the signed goalies we have, at this point. I think if not for that fact, we almost definitely would have signed a backup.

If Lindback loses the faith of the coaching staff they can send him back to Europe like Engren.

i have always loved ellis, and never thought his size was going to be a problem. that being said, today at camp, i saw him get knocked down pretty easily in front of the net. was the first time i thought he might be too small. just an observastion

also, really like klasen. also small, but he has great hands, and made a couple really nice passes today.

The rookie camp games this season are in Sunrise, FL. Next season they will play in Nashville...

FWIW, the team flies out tomorrow AM and plays at 6 PM CST. The second game is Thursday at 12 noon CST.

Keep in mind he's not done growing yet. He may not get much taller, but he certainly will fill out the frame more. Having said that, he will be a small dman in today's NHL, but I think he'll make up for it in hockey smarts.

@FLAPanthers will have updates throughout the rookie games tonight and tomorrow for anyone on Twitter.

In addition, the Panthers have promised to have a video recap of the highlights and the shootout up on www.floridapanthers.com after the game.

I'm hoping the Preds do the same!

FlaPanthers

Ellis and Aronson give Preds 2-0 lead 3:50 into game.

Correction: Taylor Beck not Aronson

3-0 Preds at the end of 2nd. Goals from Ellis, Beck, and Beck. Both of Beck's tallies have come on the PP. Flynn had a 1st period fight too...

4-0 Preds early in the 3rd. Latta with the goal.

First goal was Ellis unassisted, second goal was Beck from Ellis and Geoffrion (PP), third goal Beck from Geoffrion and Mueller (PP), still waiting word on any assists on Latta's tally.

5-0 Preds on a Blake Geoffrion goal after a delay when Linus Klasen was knocked unconscious by Chris Clackson (who Flynn fought earlier)...

It's FINAL. Preds WIN 5-0!!!

Preds win the exhibition shootout too by a 2-1 score!

Rematch tomorrow at 11 AM CST...

I hope their is some kind of video of this hit, so we can judge whether it was Richards/Booth style of hit or a direct shot to the head or not

I don't know if it'll be in one of the highlight reels or not, but I'd like to see what happened too...

Post game report from George Richards of the Miami Herald had Klasen receiving stitches to his chin and tongue, but wasn't scheduled to be taking a trip to the ER tonight.

I wouldn't doubt he is out tomorrow and will likely have to undergo baseline testing before returning to practice if he was indeed knocked unconscious.

Five skaters, or three, or what?

Sucks about Klasen. I'm going to feel free to assume the guy who hurt him is a useless goon, just because I can. But losing 5-0 at least they have that going for them in their prospect pool.

Nashville winger Linus Klasen was knocked cold late in the Predators 5-0 victory over the Panthers in a rookie game Wednesday night in Coral Springs.

Klasen was down on the ice for a few moments but eventually came to and was helped off the ice by a pair of teammates.

Klasen, 24, is apparently doing OK in the Predators locker room. A Panthers spokesman said he suffered lacerations on his tongue and chin and is being stitched up on site. A trip to the ER is not expected.

5 man shootout. Preds went 2 for 5, Panthers 1 for 5.

The Predators have confirmed that Klasen will be held out of tomorrow's game for precautionary reasons with an upper body injury.
