If you don't know by now, I go to school in Arizona, with the rest of family still living in NJ. On November 18th, the Tampa Bay Lightning will play the Flyers in Philly. My mom's favorite hockey player is, was, and will likely continue to be Simon Gagne.

Her birthday is October 18th. I cannot come home in October (mid terms + thesis, ftl). However, in mid-November is the annual ASC conference (gettin' all criminological!) in San Fran. Because of this, my classes are canceled. So I hatched a plan. I bought Flyers tickets, I bought her a SG jersey (Flyers, black, natch)

I fly to San Fran on Nov. 16th. Attend my workshop I need to go to.
Stay overnight. Fly to Philly the following afternoon. I hide out all day somewhere. Get my sister three of the four tickets. They leave for the game.

Dad swings by to get me from undisclosed location. We arrive later than mom and sis. Dad goes and sits with them. We get the usher or some other type person to get my mom to come into the hallway between the seats and the concourse. And there I am standing, holding her jersey, as her belated birthday gift.

This is two months away, and the wheels are in motion. I cannot tell you how excited I am. She thinks I'll be at the conference and cannot come home until Christmas. I just cannot wait to see her face.

Flyers fanbase, do we approve?
Excellent idea !!!! I did a similar thing for mom, except on a much smaller scale than yours and she was so happy.

Good luck

Absolutely approve!! Ya know, you should also contact some PR guy with the Flyers... maybe they can assist you in your plan somehow or throw in something cool.

I was skimming through the Habs board a minute ago and saw this piece of gold:

From a Habs fan in a thread exclusively consisting of Habs fans. Awesome.

2008 Game 4 against the Caps on NHL network now.

Carter just scored (41 sec) assist by Knuble and Upshall.

You guys just missed the best moment John Stevens had with the Philadelphia Flyers. His most awakward celebration after beating the Caps in double OT.

It was good to see Dowd again. The guy had a great night on the faceoff dot that night.

It's amazing how awkward that was compared to his two Calder Cup wins (as player and coach).

How nice of the league to offer us such a deal! A right to buy Winter Classic tickets? Oh, thank you! Those are my favorite kinds of contests. You know, the ones where I actually don't win anything and end up paying for something? How grand.

LMAO - I forgot all about that!

Our NHL Network is showing Game 5 of that series right now.

So I've been on and off thinking of becoming a Volunteer Firefighter. My step dad, dad, granddad, and loads of family friends (older) have all been one. Kind of one of those "regrets" in my life for never doing it. Anyone ever been one? Experiences? Know someone?

I know she won't pick up because of all the work that she has to do. As in 7 days a week of classes plus all the homework and other things she does. Maybe I'll give her one tomorrow, hopefully she would pick up.

You call once. If she doesn't call back, she's either busy or not into you.

If she likes you, she'll call back.

If she doesn't you can't sit around and mope. No sad faces, eh?

It's not about her "not being into me", because I know if she wasn't she wouldn't be talking to me much anyways. I still always go with that she's busy or in the middle of something if she doesn't pick up.

Never been one. Know a ton of them. Volunteer fire (and EMS) tend to attract their share of wack-a-doos, but you've always come across level headed and mature. In it for the right reasons and it appears to be very rewarding and something most people stick with for years.

You answered what the issue is! If she's really that swamped, she may just not have had the time to call you. Call her, or - what's "in" with you kids - text her telling her you're thinking of her, know she's busy, and to hit you up when she finds free time.
