All semantics. Well over 90% of the population speaks english. While it doesnt have the official moniker, it is the unofficial official language. I am sure people like you have no problem with people earning or making a living in the US while not speaking a lick of English nor wanting to learn to speak it.

According to the 2000 Census 82.1% speak English and 10.7% speak Spanish. 7.2% speak something else. This doesn't include those that speak more than one language though.

How many people, since apparently those numbers don't include bilingual people, do you think speak English, much like Zherdev, but are not very comfortable with it or can't communicate without being misunderstood from time to time?

Just found this too, 96% claim to speak it "well" or "very well." So only 4% don't speak English at all.

Probably makes the number higher, what is your point?

That's a bit more than I expected.

But, like I said, I expect Zherdev fits into that "well" group.

If I didn't speak English strongly and I would get questioned about various things in the media every other day for an entire region to see every day, I'd want a translator too.

He probably just didn't want something to be misunderstood. He is new here and wants to make a good impression I would think. So, if he made a mistake, and something was taken out of context... well... first impressions are the ones that last.

Tim needs to back the F off.

I think I am about to become a big Zherdev fan. He has a lot of doubters out there and a lot to prove. Gotta root for the underdog. I was skeptical of the signing at first, I admit. He has a lot of potential, which doesn't always pan out. But F it. I am going to get a Zherdev jersey and become a fanboy. Can't wait to see him take the ice in that orange and black!

Hell, I do speak english pretty damn well, and if I was a Flyer I'd still want to use a translator, if for no other reason than just to **** with TP...

[ShadowFlyer takes a seat at the table next to his translator.]

TP: How do you think today's practice went? Are you meshing well with your teammates and linemates? How is the dynamic working with them so far?

SF: Blah, blah blah, blahblahblah, blah blah blah. Well, uh, blah blah blah blahblah. Blahblahblahblah blahblah blah blah blah, blah blah blahblah blah. Blah blah blah blahblah. Blah, um, blahblah blah blah, blah blah blah. Blah blah blah blah blahblah blah blah blah.

Translator: "It is a treat to take the ice with such talented players. They are great, and hopefully I can help them."

TP: I think it's cowardly to hide your true feelings behind a translator, so I'm just going to assume you hate them, you can't get along with them, you're out of sync, and our season will be a disaster because of this.

And there's a very good reason it still isn't official. Land of the free and all that?

This whole argument is simple as this:

Timmy: Go to Russia for 4 years and try to adapt. Then come back to the US for a year. Then go back to Russia. I guarantee you will not have the same grasp on Russia as you did the first time.

He struggles to write in English now. I can't imagine how badly he'd mangle the Russian language.

He'd probably sound drunk. There's a vodka joke in there somewhere.

And attitudes like this are a prime reason why America gets a bad rap internationally.

Is it in Mike Richards' locker?

Because if it is, Timmy has already found it and written an article about it fresh for tomorrow's paper.

If Nikky plays on the top 2 lines, 60-70 pts will be low range of what he's capable of. 80+ is when they click. He's that good. Consistency with his A game will be the key contributing factor to his success.

A lot of the dynamics you're going to see on a deep offense is that individual stars will shine less.

So Richards may not get 82, he may get 75. Carter may not get 85, he may get 75.

Likewise, Zherdev may not get 80, he may get 65.

But that also works in reverse. Hartnell may not get 50, he may get 60.

The Inky had an article calling Z an enigma today for using a translator.
