Comrie IMO has way more skill than pos all around, and is a more well rounded player as well. He has accomplished more, and he made it to 30 vs 25 to be unemployed. Comrie battled injury and illness last year and by most accounts played pretty well for not being 100%. Pos didn't have nearly the adversity. He just didn't produce. I'm all for it but let's keep it in perspective. Pitt needed production not question marks. Comrie has proven himself repeatedly. We can take more risk in our position compared to Pitt.
I agree to that. I just believe Pittsburgh could use more talent within the top 9, they're offensive depth drops quickly in my opinion after Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Kunitz & Comrie. They're littered with grinders in Talbot, Kennedy, Asham, Cooke, Adams, Godard, Rupp, etc. They should definitely be tough to play against, but offensively if they get an injury to one of their offensive guys (especially with Staal coming off injury and not being 100%), I think they may be faced with having to acquire some offense. Tangradi may break through, but that is yet to be seen. I think O'Sullivan would have been a good move by the Pens, especially on the deal we snagged him for.
I like this signing alot. Sure he didn't do well in Edmonton, but that whole team was crap last year. He was good for LA, so I wouldn't call him dead yet. Plus this team has a way of reviving people, even if it is for a year or two.
I really would like to see him flanking one of Staal's wings and see what happens.
And he still sticks with the youth movement as he's only 25. Low Risk, High Reward, good going JR.
Love it, just love it. Great signing from Rutherford, typical for him. It's deserves the risk for me. Sullivan has some problems in the past but this is Carolina Hurricanes. When so many 'garbage' players founds home.
so i stumbled across this whole thing today. I dont know much about Patty, but it sounds like he could be another Jokinen/Samsonov type project. Hoping he turns out more like Jokinen has so far lol. Either way, like has been said, low risk/high reward type contract. lets see what he's got. I wish there was some way for me to see games from this season. I am gonna be without hockey for a whole dang season! ouch!
so i tried out patty on nhl11 yesterday, worked well with staal. interestingly, after being a scratch and disappointment on an awful oiler team, pos is still ranked an 83. that makes him tied with with ruutu as the highest rated forward on the team past staal - and one point ahead of jokinen. by no means a true judgment, but they are usually very accurate in terms of skill levels and ability, much more so than whats between the ears with these guys. i agree overall, as a vet he is one of most skilled players on the squad. replaces whitney a bit. tlusty/boychuk/skinner/dalpe will raise the skill level of this team but its something we are always short on. to add that kind of skill at his age and with the cheap price tag is a win even if it fails. we may have to pay him bank after this season. he is way more sniper than playmaker to me, with the right linemates 20 goals is hardly out of reach. if he gets a top 6 spot on the wings, that could lead to cole being on a lesser line where he could settle into a role and stop trying to be 06 cole.
id wished we got rid of sammy to keep more spots for kids, and now i wish it even more. i like sammy but he is gonna take a top 6 spot. i hope he shows up to earn it.
Larose with Staal is temporary. I think they owed him that much after the end of the year they had together. I don't think, hope at least, that the organization is viewing him as a viable solution there. I could live with O'Sullivan - Staal - Ruutu as a first line though. That's more skill than we've had on our first line in forever.
