If that's true then I'm not really surprised. I've said this many, many times before. Boosh is a very athletic, proven NHL goalie. It's questionable whether Leighton even deserves to be in the NHL.

So, what were the overall stats for Bobrovsky in the rookies game?

Ah, kinda. Boucher can be either a top five goalie or the worst goalie ever during any given two-three week stretch.

This article has some info:

However, I thought it'd be interesting to see where the shots were coming from and where Bobrovsky struggled.

As you can see, there were 30 shots and two goals. Flyers goalie coach Jeff Reese said Bobrovsky would need to get adjusted to a) traffic in front of him and b) strange angle shots, since guys in the NHL try to score from everywhere. (Apparently that doesn't happen in the KHL?)

It's interesting to see that Bobrovsky gave up a goal each way.

The goal he gave up in the first period was the weakest of the two. It was from a strange side angle and it trickled through his legs off of the light traffic in front.

His second period goal against was not as alarming, but still a shot most goalies would have. A slap shot from the point went through a few people and straight through Bobrovsky's five hole.

Any time you breakdown a specific performance like this, it can be seen as nitpicking.

That's not the purpose of this post. It was to explain the things Bobrovsky needs to work on - as admitted by Reese - in order to be more competitive as training camp starts.

Still, almost every coach in the NHL would take a performance with a .933 save percentage. Stopping 28 out of 30 shots is a decent starting point. Bobrovsky was most impressive on shots off the rush, one-timers and shots from close range.

The first group of the morning was the top players - minus Chris Pronger who is still rehabbing an injured knee.

Ville Leino and Blair Betts were out there, but were limited.

Here were the lines Peter Laviolette went with:

van Riemsdyk-Carter-Zherdev

Hartnell-Briere-Guerin

Carcillo-Richards-Giroux

Shelley-Powe-Laperriere

Expect Betts to replace Powe, Leino in Guerin's spot and Guerin in place of Carcillo if all are healthy, but that's where it'll begin Tuesday - assuming they all play in the preseason opener.

As for the defense, the pairs were:

Carle-Coburn

Meszaros-Timonen

O'Donnell-Walker/Bartulis

JVR, Shelley, Meszaros, Coburn, and Pronger...some big people right there.

I am glad that the lines when Leino and Betts are healthy look like this:

van Riemsdyk-Carter-Zherdev

Hartnell-Briere-Leino

Guerin-Richards-Giroux

Shelley-Betts-Laperriere

Id probablly switch Shelly and Carcillo but they seem 100% set on Shelly starting.

Is anyone else worried Bob is getting a ton of spotlight for such little time for being here?
I'm not sure the people in Philly honestly understand how long it can take a goalie to adapt to the North American style of hockey. After all it took a few seasons for Lindbergh to adjust. However, what I read on Bob reminds me of what I have read about Pelle. The guy just doesn't seem to give up. He is always working on his craft.

How is Boosh supposedly doing better than Leighton? Just curious.

if i had to guess, in any situation where people are taking shots on goal without the D in the way, Boosh is gonna look better because he has more natural talent

They paid Shelley 3 years at more than Carcillo is making, he's certainly in over Carcillo.

It just shows how bad our two NHL goalies are, otherwise he would barely be a footnote.

I'm not sure if this means Richards is on the wing but Timmah's reporting these lines for today:

Carcillo-Briere-Hartnell
Richards-Carter-Zherdev
JVR-Giroux-Guerin
Lappy-Powe-Shelley

Edit: he clarified it by saying Carter is on the wing and Richards back to center.

Potentially, that's a pretty nasty line.
I'm happy with that line-up if Carcillo takes Shelley's spot on a regular basis and Leino joins Briere.

I'm not sure I like the idea of Carter and Zherdev on the same line, both need the puck too much.

Zherdev can pass the puck, too.
I'd think he's more of a Giroux or Briere-type than a Carter.

This comment is interesting:

http://www.delawareonline.com/articl...ost+for+Flyers

Quote:
"What he was doing offensively in Columbus and
New York was amazing," Flyers center Danny Briere
said. "It will be interesting. We know he's very
skilled and a dangerous player. Hopefully, he gets
on board with the system here and the leadership
we have. If he does, that's another weapon we have
and it's a steal."

And if he doesn't?

"This is the most leadership I've been a part of, and
there are a lot of guys that can put him in line,"
Briere said. "It's probably a good situation for him,
coming to a team where he's not expected to be a
hero every night like he was in Columbus with Rick
Nash. As long as he works hard, the results will
come."
