The Phillies are everything the Eagles are not. And thank God for that.

Every game I watch I just think how it isn't the same without his voice.

There is no way you can replace HK. He will always be one of the best.

Still though, the McCarthy-Wheeler combination is absolutely horrendous, what did we do to deserve that?

I know they're no HK but I really don't think they're that bad. I do love me some Franzke/Anderson tandem though.

It's very hard to listen to their walkoff call. McCarthy's call is terrible, it sounds like he's wetting his pants when it leaves the park.

McCarthy and Wheels aren't as bad as some make them out to be but they're still not good. I don't really mind Wheeler but I'm not a fan of McCarthy at all.

Franzke and LA are the best though.

See, I don't get he McCarthy dislike... he's not great, just a run of the mill play-by-play guy. Wheels, on the other hand, is actively irritating. Sarge is possibly worse than Wheels.

Really wish they'd taken the opportunity to reevaluate the booth after Harry passed away -- possibly bringing his son up.

If you want some great morning entertainment, read this Main Board-esque Braves thread:

Hey now. Heyward has way more talent than any player on the Phillies roster. If he's just "nice", then the Phillies roster must be filled with a bunch of scrubs.

He sure is, what a whiner. And last I checked, they are the team with the crazy home/away record split.

We are a .641 team at home, and .542 team on the road. That's a pretty big difference (9%) in winning percentage, sure. Atlanta is a .693 team at home, and a .453 team on the road. A huge 24% drop-off. It's not just a matter of home field advantage, it's that they're a very mediocre team anywhere else.

Independent of that... his point doesn't even make sense. Is he suggesting that Ryan Howard, Utley, etc. are only good because they're playing in CBP?

Phils were a better road team last year. 48 home wins to 44 road wins the year before. 47 to 42 the year before that...

I don't understand complaining about a field when both teams are playing on it. I understand why it might aggravate pitchers... because it can wreck their stat line, but it's just absurd.

What is especially dumb about that is that Fulton Country Stadium was known as "The Launching Pad".

Quote:
Like Shea Stadium, which was built for the Mets and AFL Jets, Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium (known simply as Atlanta Stadium until 1976) featured real grass. Also like Shea, the seating configuration was passable, but not optimal, for baseball, making it an interesting place to play. In Fulton’s case, enclosing the outfield cut down on wind effects, and hitters quickly christened the place “The Launching Pad” for the number of home runs hit. Some argue that Hank Aaron’s late-career totals were helped by playing here rather than in Milwaukee.

It's embarrassing. It's like they are conceding the division. The Braves are the whiniest organization out there. Smoltz used to whine about CBP every time they were in town. Apparently Charlie's response to his Schuerholz' quote was that he tells our guys champions can win anywhere.

Jair Jurrjens scratched from his start tonight, sore right knee (see: scared). Some kid named Brandon Beachy is replacing him.
