This is kind of odd actually. Price is an obvious comparable to Steve Mason, and there are few of them out there -- and one would think that Price, with more experience and better stats, would be worth more money. Wasn't this brought up by CBJ?
That's around the going rate for a young goalie with upside like Mason/Price that haven't really proven anything in the playoffs yet. Price has won a series but hasn't really dominated in the playoffs and Mason was shelled in his one playoff series. Sophomore jinx ala Price and I expect him to be better.

I'd assume Mason's side brought up Vezina finalist and Calder trophy.
Are they comparing Mason and Price on the main board yet? I have a feeling it will be Mason is worth his contract and will rebound whereas Price is overpaid and will be a bust.. Isn't that how it always goes here @ HF with anything Habs related on the main board..
I never had a problem with Price's contract as its still half of Halak's almost, but I think its a tiny overpayment to Price but imo a tiny overpayment is worth it now for Price so he doesn't fleece us when he proves himself.
You give him an extra 10% now, more than he's worth, for his potential, so he doesn't have sour grapes when it comes time for his next contract.
But no doubt mason's contract makes you feel better about it, especially considering Niemmi was turned down for less.
