Backlund next #1?

I don't read much about Backlund at the training camp, so what's the first impression about him, i know a lot of talk have been around Bobrovsky, but will he have a real shot for the starter job?

Hes currently rehabbing an injury, but I don't think anyone believes he'll break camp as the starter unless there are some major injuries at the goalie position. He has a slight chance of being the backup though, likely depending on how Boucher plays.

Ok i didn't know he was injured, so does it means Bobrovsky have a better shot?

His best shot is probably a bus crash that kills the four goalies in front of him.

Why do people keep "speculating" about his chances? If this guy could play at all, why was he held out and avoided like the plague during the goalie-go-round of last season?

Flyers goalie situation is simple, they have one guy who might be able to play, one guy who can play rarely, two guys who are European prospects that few have seen and none say are ready right now and they have Backlund who will probably end up on the waste heap soon.

There is no real competition as I see it for the goalie job. There might be some fake competition (e.g. Ersberg versus Bernier lol) but we are gonna go in with the same combo.

Yea, Bobro probably has a better shot right now, plus he played fairly well in the first pre-season game, but if I had to bet, I'd put my money on both Bobro and Backlund being in the AHL to start the season - assuming there are no injuries to Boucher and/or Leighton during training camp.

He was brought up and injured himself. He was in that carousel.

Four goalies? There's only two or three in front of him, including the NHL guys.

Do you know what you're talking about? He was in the carousel last year. The problem is that he got injured in his first start and by the time he was healthy Leighton came back.

We won't need Backlund or Bobo when Leighton wins the Vezina this year.

The only way I see this happening is if he and Miller get into a poker game that gets way out of hand.

Leighton wins the Vezina with a 1.00 GAA, 59 wins in 60 starts and a .97 Sav%.

Flyers go on to be the winningest team in NHL history: 70-7-5 145points.

Then I woke up and realized it was all a dream.

WOuldn't mind him as the backup. He looked ok from what I saw of him last season. Nothing too great, but I'd be more comfortable with him as the backup than Boosh. Boosh had a nice playoff/end of the year, but overall, he was pretty horrendous last season.

I think Backlund is most definitely capable of being an adequete (at least) starter for this team due to both his ability/skill and how stacked the team is.

Then we go to the Finals game 7 OT and he bobbles the puck at the wrong time putting an end to our Stanley Cup hopes for another year. Then Philadelphia complains that Leighton was the worst decision in Holmgren's career.
That.

I watched some clips of Bobo, and i gotta tell you i like this kid a lot.His positioning is excellent, great balance, and he keeps his glove up in position all the time.Time will tell and say what you want, but the so called DUMMIES up in management may have got a diamond in the rough with this cat.

I am very interested to see him play against NHL competition with out an injury. I don't know if he's a diamond in the rough, but maybe like cubic zirconium (in the vein of a Niemi, perhaps)?

Agreed on all points. His inconcistancies scare me too much.
