  • Oct. 3, 2009 -- Ray Emery made 24 saves in Philly's 5-2 road win. Jeff Carter scored in the first period then Ian Laperriere and Mike Richards scored in the second period before Darroll Powe made it 4-0 in the third period. Matt Carle (1-1-2), Chris Pronger (0-2-2) and JVR (0-2-2) had 2-point games. The Flyers started a season with consecutive road wins for the first time. Martin Brodeur played in his 1,000th career game. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzxA6...eature=related

  • Nov. 16, 2009 --Ray Emery made 33 saves and with a 3-2 win, the Flyers ended N.J.'s attempt to tie the NHL record for consecutive road wins at the start of a season. N.J. entered the game with a perfect 9-0-0 road mark and winners of their last eight overall. Darrol Powe scored a first period goal and Scott Hartnell made it 2-0 in the opening minute of the second period. N.J.'s goals came with three seconds left on a 5-on-3 in the middle period and then one with 0.6 left in regulation. Prior to the game, Dave Schultz became the 20th player inducted into the Flyers Hall of Fame: “Philadelphia Flyers fans are the greatest. I love you all. I have never had a bad day in Philadelphia.”
  • Dec. 12, 2009 --Niclas Bergfors and Patrik Elias each scored twice and Martin Brodeur made 22 saves in NJ's 4-1 home win. Bergfors scored two PPGs by the 12:31 mark. NJ led 3-0 after one period, outshooting Philly 14-5. Brian Boucher made 24 saves.
  • Feb. 8, 2010 -- Mike Richards' PPG with 7:58 remaining gave Philly a 3-2 home win. NJ led 2-0 when Anssi Salmela scored 1:01 into the second period. Salmela was then knocked out and removed from the game on a stretcher after being hit by Jeff Carter. Philly scored twice in the final 96 seconds of the second period to even the game 2-2. Michael Leighton made 28 saves. Martin Brodeur stopped 34 shots. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbIRkFgBWD8

  • Feb. 10, 2010 -- The Flyers completed a home-and-home sweep on a terrific play by Simon Gagne with 1:33 left in a 3-2 OT road win. NJ led 2-0 8:01 into the game. Jeff Carter tied the score with 6:13 left in the second period. NJ held a 23-15 shots advantage including 7-1 in the third period. Michael Leighton made 21 saves. The game, played amid a blizzard which dumped over a foot of snow, attracted an announced crowd of 5,580 that was estimated by some to be closer to 3,000. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YF5hVkAaLlg

  • Mar. 28, 2010 -- Brian Boucher made 32 saves and five Flyers, led by Simon Gagne (1-1-2) and Ville Leino (1-1-2), scored in a 5-1 home win. Three Flyers' defensemen scored, Matt Carle, Kimmo Timonen and Lucas Krajicek, a team first since October 14, 2005 when Joni Pitkanen, Derian Hatcher and Mike Rathje did so against Pittsburgh. Martin Brodeur (15 saves, 19 shots) was removed after the second period for Yann Denis (5 saves, 6 shots). The Flyers beat the Devils five times, a team first since the 1988-89 season. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtusqLIv6hk
  • April 14, 2010 -- In Game 1 at N.J., Brian Boucher made 23 saves backing the Flyers to a 2-1 win. It was Boucher's first PO start in eight years. Boucher’s last PO win of nearly ten years was the third longest stretch in PO history (Boston’s Jim “Sugar” Henry went 10 years and 1 day between wins (1942-52); Sean Burke went 9 years, 347 days between wins. Boucher went 9 years, 329 days between victories). Boucher came within 2:43 of a shutout and made several key stops. Chris Pronger, who played a game-high 30:01, snapped a second period scoreless tie with a PPG then Mike Richards (1-1-2) made it 2-0. The Flyers' PK excelled going 5-for-5. The Flyers were outshot 24-14; the shot total unofficially was the fewest in any team PO win and one off the all-time team PO low of 13 (in two losses). The Flyers led a series 1-0 for the first time since 2004 (Toronto). After the game, Danny Briere said “There’s a piece of furniture behind you guys that took a pretty good beating” a reference to a soda machine supposedly thrashed by head coach Peter Laviolette between the first and second periods. Game highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRCz9fdodW8

  • April 16, 2010 -- In Game 2 at N.J., Dainius Zubrus snapped a 3-3 tie with 4:04 left in regulation and Martin Brodeur made 26 saves in NJ's 5-3 home win. Ilya Kovalchuk (1-2-3) added an ENG. Patrik Elias (0-3-3) had three assists. Zach Parise scored a SHG 2:45 into the game. Chris Pronger became the sixth Flyer, and first defenseman, to score in his first two PO games with the team. The Flyers led 2-1 after one period. The game was tied 3-3 after two periods. Brian Boucher made 28 saves. Philly was 2-for-7 on PPs, NJ was 1-for-3. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_4l58Xp-Oc

  • April 18, 2010 -- In Game 3 at Philly, Dan Carcillo (1-1-2) scored 3:35 into OT lifting the Flyers to a 3-2 win. The goal came five seconds after NJ killed a minor penalty. NJ went 2-for-8 on PPs while the Flyers went 1-for-5. Philly was called for three minors prior to the seven-minute mark and through two periods had seven minors to NJ's two. Mike Richards (1-1-2) added two points and Brian Boucher made 17 stops. The Flyers held a 34-19 shots advantage including 18-4 combined in the third period and OT. The third period was scoreless. Brian Rolston (2 PPGs) and Martin Brodeur (31 saves) led NJ. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQIsJVU9kgg

  • April 20, 2010 -- In Game 4 at Philly, Brian Boucher made 31 saves and Jeff Carter (2-1-3) and Danny Briere (1-2-3), both pointless in the series, each had three points in the Flyers' 4-1 home win. Briere netted the GWG with 2:33 left in the second period. However Carter and Simon Gagne both suffered foot injuries in the game and were lost indefinitely. The Flyers' PK killed 7 of 8 chances while the PP scored twice on eight tries. Chris Pronger assisted on third period goals by Dan Carcillo and Carter, the latter coming on a 5-on-3. Ilya Kovalchuk scored NJ's lone goal, on a 5-on-3 in the first period. Martin Brodeur made 24 saves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAEzUBHqbJw

  • April 22, 2010 -- In Game 5 at N.J., the seventh seeded Flyers upset the second ranked Devils 4 games to 1. Brian Boucher made 28 saves and Claude Giroux (2-1-3) scored twice during a second-period span of 1:59 in an eventual 3-0 victory. Danny Briere (1-1-2) scored a PPG 3:16 into the game. Briere said of Giroux, the game's top star, “Big plays from him again tonight. You can’t teach what he does. He’s been a guy we’ve been able to rely on. For some reason we have that chemistry when we’re together on the ice. We think alike and we know where each other are going to be all the time. He’s a player that’s fun to play with and you have to be ready to get the puck from him every time.” Mike Richards added two assists. The Flyers were 2-for-6 on PPs while New Jersey was 0-for-8. The Devils committed 13 turnovers to the Flyers' one. Chants of "Booosh" and "Let's Go Flyers' rang throughout the Prudential Center. Ilya Kovalchuk said "We've got a great team but they just outplayed us, totally. They were missing a couple of guys (Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne) but were still able to do it. We did not deserve to win." Boucher earned his first playoff shutout since April, 16, 2000, ending a streak of 10 years and six days — the second longest in NHL history, missing Jim Henry’s mark (1942-52) by just four days. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ii5sFowdPlQ Series Recap: Boucher's GAA in the series was 1.59 with a .940 save percentage and did not allow an even strength goal for the last 187:39 of the series (excluding Ilya Kovalchuk’s empty-netter at the end of Game 2). The last time the Flyers ended a series with a shutout win came in 1987 when Ron Hextall blanked the New York Rangers. Martin Brodeur recorded a 2.98 GAA and an .881 save percentage. Scoring leaders: Mike Richards (2-6-8), Claude Giroux (4-3-6), Danny Briere (2-3-5) and Chris Pronger (2-3-5) who had points in his first four PO games as a Flyer. NJ was led by Ilya Kovalchuk (2-4-6). The Flyers' PP was 8-for-29 and the PK killed 28 of 32.

MSE wasnt Bob being the backup official? Or was that just what people heard? (not doubting what you wrote, but was wondering if anything changed.)

Hockey!

Granted, I've already seen 10-ish live games this season, plus plenty of them on TV, but no NHL games! gogogogo.

I think the idea is to get him as much game-experience as possible, so he'll probably be the backup tomorrow. I didn't see it confirmed by a coach so I included Boucher on the list, too.

The demise of the great MSE GDT has been greatly exaggerated!

We may not have a goalie but we could easily go back to the cup on MSE's shoulders.

I think it was the founder of Forbes Magazine who said "Victory is sweetest when you've known defeat.” Working on that theory, it's party time.

I bought a ticket for this game on Stubhub and I'm nervous about it's validity; it's a great seat for a fraction of the face value. So, hopefully it's legit and I'll be able to give a post game analysis.

Let's Go Flyers!

According to tom gulitti (Devils reporter):
Looks like Hedberg and not Brodeur in for tomorrow.
Quote:
Although Devils coach John MacLean said he had not decided his complete lineup, Greene and backup goaltender Johan Hedberg both said they believed they will be making the trip to Philadelphia Tuesday. MacLean said that Hedberg and Martin Brodeur would not play in the same game at the start of the preseason, so that means Brodeur will stay home Tuesday. That fits with Brodeur’s usual preseason routine, He usually doesn’t play road games at the start of the preseason.

Thanks for the GDT MSE, your work never ceases to amaze me. I have missed these. Let's Go Flyers! Here's to a great pre-season (build some confidence and chemistry and no injuries for our players).
