I must admit, I was expecting to be Rick Rolled.

Great read nonetheless.

Why would they choose him as Captain? I thought he was a horrible captain and blah blah blah Tremblay.

Would be very interesting to see him as Captain there, but I suspect his age / lack of time in Anaheim might be factors against it. Selanne has been there-and-back forever and Getzlaf is probably the team's "future" Captain, from what I understand..... Should be an interesting choice

Nah, 16 years as a Hab says this deserves to be mentioned in the Montreal forum. Koivu will always be a Canadien to me.

Keep an eye on this: the minute he gets named Capt of the Ducks is the minute he'll stop speaking English!
(Cant speak the language of the paying customer, dont you know...)

I've been over to the Ducks board for this same discussion. They seem to be half and half...I think Getzlaf should get it because I think he will rise to the challenge. I think Koivu's time on the Ducks IS part of why he may not get it...Also, he's not locked up for very long and is a player I could see the Ducks just letting go after his contract (Not a slight on Koivu), I think the Ducks will re-negotiate with Getzlaf and have a deal done at the beginning of his last year.

He prob won't get it but he's a legit candidate. He's getting an A at the minumum though(already had it).

I wouldn't be surprised to see him get it, just to help keep "pressure" off Getzlaf. Not too mention, it will further help Getzlaf learn to be a captain. Obviously, Koivu can't teach him any offensive tricks, but Koivu is a top leader in the league.

I suppose the local media will complain that he hasn't taken the time to learn Spanish, therefore he isn't worthy of being captain.
Selanne will not be captain, and Getzlaf will be in the future. At least Koivu will again wear either the 'A' or maybe the 'C' in his last NHL contract.

You mean Spanish - that is SoCal he is playing in.

Why is Grabovski news moved to the out-of-town thread and not this? Koivu is no longer a Hab.

Because Grabovski played about 1% of the games Koivu played for the habs?

If someone made a topic on Guy Lafleur, should it be moved to the out of town thread or maybe to the rangers board?

I can see him being captain just to give Getzlaf another year or two to grow into it. As for Selanne, if he wanted the captaincy, they'd probably give it to him over Saku but I doubt he does. There's a reason Koivu has been the Finnish captain. He's the leader, Selanne is the scorer.

Do you really need to ask that. There's exceptions to every rule & a class act like Koivu is one of them.

By all accounts Getzlaf will be next leader of the Ducks, but having Saku there for two more seasons could give Ryan a bit more time to grow into the leading role. Considering that the team that has have Pronger and S.Niedermayer leading the room lately, I am not sure Getzlaf is currently mature enough to fill their shoes.

In practice, I think that there are only two options: either Getzlaf will (already) receive the C or Saku will be named captain. They also were the alternates last season.

I don't think that Teemu wants to be captain. Even in national team, his only tour of duty as captain came in 2002, coincidentally since Koivu was out.

He's clearly implying that Grabovski deserves his own threads on the Habs board
