I figure if Stepan has another good game, he's made the team.

When its all set and done i think stepan, drury, anisimov and christensen will be our centers (or drury on wing and dubi on center)

Boyle, while effective for one measily game, won't make it.

I think Boyle or someone else knocks EC out of the lineup if Stepan continues to excel.

If Stepan beats Christensen out for the top line job, Christensen will be waived. He'd have no place on the team.

Stepan looked like he could hang at this level to me. He's a sharp kid. I don't care how old he is. I like him and I want to watch him play on the Rangers

MZA has to be the smallest player in the league. I know Chico was clammering on about Gionta, but this guy really does look tiny in HD. He had some good shifts, first time at MSG.... I wanna see more.

Ocho gave up a ****** goal to give the Devs the tie. Obviously he's going to the Whalepack anyways

Thy sure seemed to be giving Fedo face time with the camera. Making me nearvous

Why would he be waived? Why couldn't he just play in Hartford?

He makes like 800 or 900k. I doubt we go all year without any injuries to our centers. Christensen could be a very good fill-in. We know he has the offensive potential to click with Gaborik. It's not consistent enough for me to want him playing full-time now that Stepan looks ready, but I'd keep him around as insurance. What's the harm in having him play in Hartford as an injury call-up? Aside from that being a blow to his (already teetering) confidence, I think he's a much better option than White or any of the other Hartford centers if one of our top 2-3 centers goes down. I like Kennedy too but I have a feeling he might make the team too, possibly as a winger. I just would be hesitant to waive Christensen. How many pro contracts is the limit? Either way I think we'll hold on to him at least until December when we have a better feel for the makeup of the team.

How about:

(while Drury is out):

Frolov Stepan Gaborik
Dubinsky Prospal MZA
Avery Anisimov Callahan
Prust Boyle Boogard
Kennedy

(when Drury is in):

Frolov Stepan Gaborik
Dubinsky Prospal MZA
Avery Anisimov Callahan
Prust Drury Boogard
Kennedy/Boyle and the other goes to HFD.

I was also thinking Drury could really succeed on the wing but with 2 playmakers on his line and we might be able to afford to pair him with them now that we have a few more creative guys on the team. For example:

Frolov Stepan Gaborik
Dubinsky Anisimov Callahan
Drury Prospal MZA <-- I'd love to see Drury become the shooter on this line and let the other two set him up.
Prust Boyle Avery
Boogard
Kennedy

Christensen would have to be waived to be sent to Hartford and I suspect he would be subject to re-entry waivers if he was re-called (making it unlikely the Rangers would risk losing him and having to pay 1/2 his salary for the next two years). I think he stays on the roster.

Of course that makes sense, but he will have just gotten beat out of a job by a prospect. Unless another team is severely hurting for a center he'll probably clear

Not just one measly game but the entirety of training camp as well according to all the beat writers. I think he got good feedback from management in his exit interview and we are seeing him execute upon that to the T. they probably said, if you play this way next season, you won't make the team. here's what we want to see from you next season...

Brian Boyle on playing more this season…
“It is more about being consistent. I think I can do things. We have a lot of skill guys on this team. I can use my body and do things that other guys on the other team can’t. I have to play to my strengths. It is just a consistency thing. It is playing hard, playing physical. It is more about the initiative. I can bang guys and create room. Again, it is just one preseason game but it was a lot of fun to get back on the ice.”

Here is my assesment of who is battling with who for spots on the opening night roster
It could very well be that the NYR management has an entirely different view or idea here, though...

Frolov - Stepan/Christ/ev White - Gaborik
Dubinsky - Anisimov - MZA/Grachev
Prospal - Drury - Callahan (possibly switch to 2nd line)
Avery/Fedotenko - Boyle/Kennedy/White/ev Avery - Prust

13th fwd - Boogaard
Ev 14th fwd - Kennedy/Weise/Avery/Christ/Boyle/White/Fedotenko

Staal - Girardi
Rozie (barring an unlikely trade) - MDZ
McD (just my feeling) - Gilroy/Sauer/Tank/Eminger/ev return for Redden (Souray?)

7th D - Semenov/Eminger/Exelby

Wade Redden will imo most likely be dealt - probably for Souray thereby solving the 3rd D pairing. Although I am very scared what we may have to throw in here to appease The Oliers...but Sather is not God-awful in the trade column. We shall see where this goes.
If not - he will almost certainly be waived and then assigned somewhere in Europe. I do not think the manafement wants The 6 Million Dollar (+) Man as a disgruntled, overpaid vet playing with our prospects on The Whale for the next 4 long years....

Yeah - Hank wins the starting role too

Why are people continuing to put Dubinsky as a potential center? Tortorella has said that he sees Dubinsky moving permanently to LW. Frolov and Dubi are going to be the top two LWs this season.

Frolov Stepan Gaborik
Dubinsky Anisimov Callahan
Avery Prospal Drury
Prust Boyle Boogaard
Kennedy/Christensen

Staal Girardi
MDZ Rozy
McDonagh Gilroy
Eminger

Henke
Biron

i think the 13th forward will be Kennedy or Christensen. If a top 6 player goes down these 2 will be better suited to help out then anyone else with a chance of making the team. MZA will start in Hartford if he looks like he did yesterday the rest of preseason, but i think he will improve.

Rozsival tweaked his groin last night. That's why he wasn't out in the third. Wasn't going to play on Saturday anyways so they'll let him rest it

Some players have to be waived to go to Hartford and some (younger on their ELC's) don't. I know everyone is going to have to earn their spot but that's the oldest line of BS in the book.

The Rangers have 14 NHL veteran forwards signed and Fedotenko. They have 7 NHL veteran d-men signed and Semenov and Exelby. Any rookie or unsigned vet that makes it means subtract one of those signed veterans. They will have to go through waivers unless they're in their ELC like Del Zotto. But there's only a couple and there's no way Del Zotto doesn't make the team.

If both Stepan and McDonagh make it--one of the bubble veteran forwards like White, Christensen, Kennedy or Boyle and one of the bubble vet d-men like Redden or Eminger would have to go unless Gilroy got cut. I think he's waiver free. White has a big contract. Redden has a huge albatross contract. They seem most likely at this point to not make the team. As for the unsigned guys--to make the team they have to push a contract player out. Seems like a tough road to hoe. Unless one of them plays light out I think it makes most sense not to sign any of them.

Looking ahead to Saturday; the following players did not play last night:

Lundqvist
MDZ, Eminger, Exelby, Gilroy, Manning, Redden, Valentenko
Anisimov, Avery, Byers, Callahan, Grachev, Newbury, Prospal, White, Williams

Who from last night's game do you think is going to play again, assuming it's so they get another look? I'd have to say Kennedy, Boyle, Christensen and Zuccarello. Biron just so Hank has a backup, or maybe Johnson so they can confirm they're sending him back to Hartford.

Also assuming everyone who didn't play last night is to play on Saturday:

Prospal/Anisimov/Callahan
Grachev/Kennedy/Zuccarello
Avery/White/Williams
Byers/Newbury/Boyle
Christensen

MDZ/Eminger
Valentenko/Gilroy
Redden/Exelby
Manning

Lundqvist
Biron/Johnson

...or something like that.

Can someone clear this up....i thought i read somewhere that in an interview Torts already said that Christ and Anisimov have made the team?

Also, I KNOW that he has stated over and over that Dubinsky will be on the wing this year and he WILL NOT be playing center. Torts wants him to focus on driving to the net and playing a one dimensional game rather than having to worry about all the skating that a center does.

I would think that Prospal would be moved to center before Dubi is, not to mention, with the (what looks like) emergence of Stepan we have some (dare i say) depth down the middle with EC, Anisimov, Drury, Boyle and Step

They can't possibly expect to start the season with neither prust nor Boogaard in the lineup.

I'm not a fighting guy but if those top 4 lines are the ones we dress, we would be bar none the softest team in the league.
