I don't see Pittsburgh being as good as everyone thinks. Their bottom-6 isn't anything to write home about and they lost Gonchar to run their PP.

I dont understand the fascination with the Coyotes. About half their victories came in a shootout last season. They will not be that effective this season.

As did the Kings.

Not meaning to be a jerk but what about the Sabres lineup makes you think they're better than the Coyotes, who by the way will have a much deeper lineup this year than it did last?

Indeed. But then again, you're not alone. That's the most basic dilemma with Internet communication, one that will not be solved until video-monitors with pictures/sound replace message boards with text. Maybe sometime after 2020 it'll be the norm. We'll see.....

But, yes, I wasn't implying the Yotes weren't better than the Sabres, but that the overall time-frame for improvement says as much about the Yotes abruptly rising as it does about the Sabres abruptly falling. Right about now, I'm pointing at Vanek's contract and laughing.

The Coyotes hiring a proven coach and going to a much more veteran lineup over throwing 5 or 6 kids to the sharks has had a lot to do with the sudden change as well.

How come their "bridge player" signings worked out so well?

Blind luck? Well maybe some of that but through necessity DonMaloney is proving to be a pretty shrewd bargain hunter.

The forumla isn't that difficult though. A proven coach that has shown he can teach team defense, strong goaltending, just enough scoring by committee and some decent veterans replacing inexperienced rookies. It's also a formula that should do them well going into this year especially since they've improved their scoring depth. I don't really expect a 4th overall finish again but I don't see why top 10 should be out of the question.

Also even though TSN pre-season power ranking are the next best thing to meaningless, 3 teams from the Pacific in the top 8 speaks loudly of how difficult this division should be again.

The Coyotes had the 4th best record in the entire league last year, while playing in one of the toughest divisions. They have superb coaching and goaltending. Combined that with good veteran leadership, and some nice up coming young players, and you've got a team that's going to be good for awhile.

They're easily a top 10 team IMO.

They also lost their top defenseman in Zbynek Michalek and one of their top scoring forwards (and one of the fastest players in the league) in Matthew Lombardi.

While they did add Ray Whitney and Eric Belanger, I think they are really going to hurt from the loss of Michalek, who led all skaters in ice time.

Losing Michalek hurts, but overall our defense should be better. We replaced Michalek and Vandermeer with Morris and OEL (assuming he makes the team). Michalek is better than Morris, but OEL should be quite a bit better than Vandermeer even as a rookie. Not to mention Yandle and Lepisto will also keep improving. Jovo is... Jovo.

Our offense looks like it should be better this season even with the loss of Lombardi.

They'll also get a full year of a quickly developing Wolski (18pts in 18 games w/ the Coyotes). Plus Turris had a strong season in the AHL last year, and should be ready for the NHL full time this year.

Regardless, I don't see how anyone can deny that they're going to be a good team. Anything can happen though.
