really doubt this has anything to do with a trade but i could be wrong.

someone find that amazon listing of wade redden and post it. this thread needs it.

i'm still in shock that i won't have to watch him suckin' it up and down the ice another year. i'm glad he's gone but i don't want him around our prospects in hartford either. europe or bust!

Yeah, it's hard to feel bad for a player who made 30 million the last four years.

Now he'll get paid 6.5 million a season to retire in Hartford or Europe. I'd say life could be worse

Redden can wipe his tears with gold bars and hundred dollar bills.

too bad sather probably didnt learn anything from this. he'll sign someone else to a way overpriced contract again and be in the same boat until he isnt a gm anymore.

Nope. I think, as Sather said, this was just an inevitability and there is no sense in waiting.

This also gives Wade the maximum amount of time to figure out what exactly he's going to do with himself.

i don't think there's a chance in hell he plays in europe. he just had a child born within the past wee, there's no way his wife will them him/them move overseas. but what do i know

as others said i do feel bad for him on a personal level. by all accounts he's a great guy and real good with charity. he's certainly made enough money that he won't have to worry about providing for his family and i hope he can bounce back.

that being said, this had to be done and i'm glad it was.

Wade didn't sign himself and steal that money from the cap, Slats gave it to him.

So on that note, I feel terrible for him but great for NYR. I still wish him well.

Agreed. This is a forcible end to his NHL career, which kinda sucks. He's a good guy, so it's unfortunate that it has to end like this for him. Had to be done though.

I'm stoked!

Redden is a good guy though, but his play on this team was terrible. This had to be done.

He should call up Dan Ellis lol.

I didn't know Redden just had a baby though, thats gotta be tough being a new dad and not being sure of where you're going to be living/playing. I wish him the best of luck in that regard.

Good for us though, haha. Drury is the only killer contact left!
I agree. I do feel bad for him with his situation. He's about to have a kid. But at the same time I know he's financially set for a very long time, if not for life. It was a contract that shouldn't have ever been offered and it's not Wade's fault that he did what anyone else would have done. Either way he accepted the money AND the expectations that came with the money. He didn't live up to his salary and now he's getting the boot. This is business. Even so I hope he continues his career elsewhere where he'd be more valuable. Perhaps somewhere in the KHL.

And Drury's contract is bad but at least he fills some important roles on this team.

And they all said it was impossible...

See, Slats has no problem at all admitting his mistakes.

yeah, you're probably spot on with this one but i don't recall wade calling a team only meeting when things were going down the tube fast. that was sean and hank. say what you want about him in the locker room, i still think wade was worse.

Good day for the team, but must be a sad day for Wade Redden. What a steep & precipitous decline he's had, he is 33-years-old and plays like he is 40.

The real travesty is that the man who gave him that ridiculous contract still has a job...

A move that in the Salary Cap Era had to be made. I just could never tell what Wade Redden we got here in New York. One that wanted to play great hockey, but just couldn't anymore, because of a broken down body. Or a player that just came for a paycheck, and was not willing to give everything he had.

hahai can see we wont agree on this one, avery can throw all the team meetings he wants or talk all he wants in the dressing room but it doesnt mean any players want to listen to him.
